Late payment marker as a result of admin error

in Credit cards
I was hoping for some advice regarding a frustrating issue with a previous RBS credit card. In December 2013 I requested to settle and close the account. After making the final payment the RBS customer services told me that I had overpaid and they would be returning £175. Little did I know this was an administrative error and they shouldn't have been repaying me, and that my balance was now £175 again. I received a statement in January 2014 which I presumed was a closing statement, and stupidly ignored it thinking everything was settled. I received a further statement in February 2014 which then arose my suspicion and realised that there was still a balance on the card and that a late payment charge had been added.
I immediately discussed this with customer services and after much to-ing and fro-ing they agreed to refund the late payment charge, any interest charges and take off any late payment markers. All I had to do was pay the outstanding balance which I did. Having checked my credit file soon after this I realised that a late payment marker remained on the account and hadn't been updated. After numerous telephone calls and the usual it will take several weeks to update I realised I was getting no where, so I logged a complaint which was dealt with, and received a letter saying it was resolved. When checking my credit report it now said satisfactory and I thought that was that.
Yesterday I decided to see my updated credit report in preparation for a new credit application and I happened to look deeper into my RBS file and I realised that although it says satisfactory there is still a late payment marker on the file, which i can imagine is going to affect my ability to get credit. I contacted RBS customer services who put me through to the complaints department who said that they no longer have my credit card details on file as the account was closed (but do have some random credit card from 5 years ago, which I never had- scary!!) and that they would need pass it on to the relevant department who will contact me within 5 days!
So that's the story, and sorry for the essay, but you can imagine how frustrating and concerning this is. I was hoping for some advice as to what else I can do to resolve this? IS there anyone else that can help in this situation?

Why didn't you know? Surely you know what charges you have made to the card, and how much you have paid off?
D'oh.I received a statement in January 2014 which I presumed was a closing statement, and stupidly ignored it thinking everything was settled.
One late payment marker isn't got to have much, if any, affect on an otherwise good credit history.Yesterday I decided to see my updated credit report in preparation for a new credit application and I happened to look deeper into my RBS file and I realised that although it says satisfactory there is still a late payment marker on the file, which i can imagine is going to affect my ability to get credit.
It sounds like you've done all you can.0
