    The confusion (fuelled by the Bookface curse of sheep mentality) is because banks will often cancel charges if you call them and explain it would cause you hardship to pay them.

    This is often supported by people saying they are on benefits.

    It does not mean they legally aren't able to collect charges from people on benefits, it just means they may remove them as a good-will gesture.

    Usually they only do this once or twice for each customer.

    Nope.

    Your bank might refund you them, but there's no entitlement to any refund just because you happen to be on benefits.

    It's on a page called 'Fill My Family on a Budget'. A lot of people appear to be getting charges back. They are just ringing up though, and I wondered if there was a particular protocol (if it actually was true, which people here seem to think not. :( )
