I used ccleaner for a couple of years, then installed regseeker which worked like a dream on Xp, never had any problems with it. However regseeker does not like Vista at all, so back to ccleaner. ccleaner although great is personally to me a little less thorough than i'd like, even though i do use regedit on a regular basis (yes, i do know what i am doing), so what i am after really is something that cleans up temp files and registry but a little more thoroughly than ccleaner, esp from the registry point of view. What alternatives have you used and recommend? (i'd prefer answers from people who have used regseeker and ccleaner as they will have had the ability to compare) thanks.

Why do you even bother? These registry cleaners are a waste of time and I'm very dubious about them "fixing" things. If it ain't broke, leave it.
Stick with CCleaner and leave the registry alone.0 -
I use CCleaner and the new version CCleaner 1.41.544 is out now.

I use it every day before I shut down.
Regcleaner I use say once a month coz it is more *In Depth*.
CC is "a little less thorough" coz it will only zap things that are safe. Whereas with Regc you need to know what you are doing - like you said

regseeker was finding a lot of 'problems' with vista that werent problems when i analyzed the list, whereas with xp it did only detect valid problems. i disagree, i have always used registry cleaners and done it manually, and always will do as i like to make sure i dont have pointless/corrupted entries lying about. i have a thing about keeping my comp very minimalistic as regards to files, registry, disk space etc etc that is the way i like it. i have never deleted anything needed yet, and have been doing this for a few years now. i asked for opinions, i don't need to be told to 'leave well alone' as if i am going to be stupid and delete needed entries! i go through them all meticulously before i do anything, now, can anyone recommend something i asked for in my original post please?, that removes junk files as well as registry tweaking. thankyou.
edit- tankard, that is exactly how i did it when i had xp:)Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0 -
I like Registry Mechanic from PCTools - I got it free off a cover CD so it didn't cost anything!Lack of money is the root of all evil.

I always find these things like to identify things, just for the hell of it.0
