Bought dress, not yet dispatched. Now reduced

I bought a dress from the H&M website a couple of weeks ago and was told it would be dispatched around now. Went back to check the status on my account a couple of days ago to find that the dress has been reduced by 40%
Where do I stand in asking for a partial refund as the dress at the time of dispatch is now cheaper than what I paid for it? The dress is sold out at the reduced price otherwise I would have ordered it and sent the full price one back.
Thanks
Emma

You can certainly ask, but they're under no obligation to give you it at the cheaper price. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

You're reliant on their goodwill, even if you return it, you can't be sure of re-buying it. Just concentrate on the fact you were happy enough with the price when you initially bought it.
It's always easy for companies to reduce prices on items they've not got in stock0 -
You bought it online so have the Distance Selling Regulations rights of cancelling the order.
Being sensible they should give you a partial refund but if they wont then you are free to cancel your existing order for a full refund and then repurchase the item at the sale price. Of cause the slight risk is that you cancel it and they then dont have any stock to fulfill the new order0 -

That would be unlucky in the extreme. Cancel order. Re-order.0 -
The OP has said in the first post that the dress is sold out.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

There is a chance that the 40% off dresses were only certain sizes and it was never reduced in your size
Anything they give would be a goodwill gesture. If they refuse you have the options to keep it at the price you paid or send it back for full refund0 -
Maybe the item is still in the post, I'm not sure what your rights are with regards to getting the difference of the sale price and full price back but it would be worth arguing the point with them. Was in H&M a couple of weeks ago looking for something my daughter was wanting and the assistant said the online stock is sent from Sweden so if we needed the item in a hurry not to bother because it can take weeks to arrive! They were very helpful in the shop though and phoned a couple of local stores for me to find what I was looking for.0

On the flip side if the dress had gone up would you be ringing H&M offering to pay the difference?0
