Problem transferring music onto Sony Walkman

My neighbour has just bought a Sony Walkman and despite following the instructions we cannot transfer tracks onto the Walkman via Sonicstage (the software used with the device).
All help gratefully received.:D

It's a regular MP3 player and she has downloaded muisc from her CD's - the problem is it says it's transferring but nothing appears on the Walkman. Plus it's fully charged and the USB connection is good.

Don't know sorry - I have an iPod shuffle and we thought it would be as easy as that. The software says music from CD's should be in the correct format (but doesn't say what that is) using the Sonicstage software.
We looked up some reviews and a number of people have had problems with the software.0
