Wednesday 16th July 2014 - What small DFW things will you do today?

Posts: 4,965 Forumite
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Morning DFW-Jedis,
Day two of being "between employment contracts". So today I have to go back to the garage and get the repairs done to our car. This is bad for two reasons. (a) the £250 bill (b) we have torrential rain and I have to either walk 7 miles home and then back later or wait at a bus stop with no shelter twice.
Today I shall be:
:DHaving home-made pancakes for lunch.
:DEarning Nectar AdPoints
:DCheck my online banking.
:DWashing is out to dry on the whirligig if it ever stops raining.
:DEating homegrown mini salad leaves and potatoes.
:DDoing i-Say surveys.
:DBuying petrol at BP to get Nectar points.
:DEnjoy 'free' flowers growing in our garden..
:DCheck how many Tesco Clubcard points I have.
:DCheck how many Nectar Points I have.
Also a fortnight ago I found brand new t-shirt in a bag with a credit card receipt. Called store to report finding and ask them to trace purchaser. Purchaser was known to staff member and was duly contacted. Purchaser contacted me and told me to keep it. Bless you, Sir, I need all the clothes I can get!Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -

Morning,
Today's offerings:
*Saved a bit of energy by sharing bath water, switching off iron for final garment & leaving hair to dry naturally (going for the wild look today!)
*Pulled 1.5lbs rhubarb & stewed it as we're getting a bit low on fruit.
*Pick lettuce & a few shallots, courgettes for using in the 'sort of' kedgeree I'm making tonight.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*mr f forgot his lunch today but is calling back on route to his next meeting to collect it rather than buying a sandwich.
*Did a very few surveys.
*Watered veggie garden & will feed plants later when less danger of scorching the leaves - it's a really hot day here.
*Too hot to do much else, so will finish library book & crack on with knitting current item for the present box.
*Feel too hot to walk anywhere, haven't got the car & don't fancy sitting on the bus, so that's an NSD at any rate.
Cheers,
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -

* Wrote to Parking Services, asked for mitigating circumstances, let them know about only receiving the email decision now & asked for next steps

* Wrote a superb (if I say so myself) letter to Just Eat to complain & ask for compensation
Today I will:
* Update V5 address
* Re-contact the police re burglar
* Fill out working tax credit form
* Write a complaint about Yorkshire Water
* Do an electric meter reading
* Use up fridge leftovers
* Hoover & sweep
* Write a complaint about Yorkshire Water

Have a good one

Good morning all
Ally & everyone, thank you for responses and thoughts on yesterdays questions, have spent about an hour poking around the internet after your suggestions!!
Definitely feeling blessed today that I am no longer in a situation where I don't answer the door for fear of bailiffs, and going without electricity for 4 days as the prepaid meter has run out of electric and I have run out of money until pay day! I'm ashamed that it can be so easy to forget these things, however, feeling a bit better than my cheap (-er than usual) grocery shop has turned up and the cupboards are stocked again.
Today:
* [STRIKE]Put shop away and clear food that is off[/STRIKE] - very happy I threw nothing away this week except two slices of bread which a very happy blackbird is currently munching through!
* Couple of economy loads of washing and brave putting them on the line to dry
* Cook up a load of bolognese / chilli for work lunches and freeze (anything to avoid temptation of the £4 :eek: meal deal at work!)
* Clean the[STRIKE] kitchen[/STRIKE], bathroom, bedroom 1 & office with some of the many many many cleaning products currently possessed!
* NSD? Need to locate a 70th Birthday card for my dad but can't be bothered to leave the house... I am an amazing daughter :rotfl:
* Look at bank, don't cry, do some serious budgeting for month - am paying off full amounts on credit before I get back to my old ways (currently about £200 on a couple of accounts but it's a downhill slide)
On a very non-MSE note, tv rattling in the background as I type and someone has just spent £500 on their grocery shopping at Harvey Nicks!!!!!
Have a good day all
SxI have enough money for the rest of my life... as long as I never have to pay for anything again!
