Was wondering how many people with Cash plus's pre-paid card have had an invite for their proper credit card? Not sure what to call it.

I am not a pre paid customer but I had this Invitation I think last year.

I came here to ask if anyone got the invitation before because I thought they do pre paid card only but no answer so the ref code expired.

I put this on because it's little known that Cashplus have a credit card that isn't pre-paid. I am a Carer to a gentleman who took this offer up. I've mentioned on another thread "shout" card thread, that he bought a book online, he was given a date to have a payment in for.
I actually made the payment for him, made a full payment, it then came up as a 00.00 balance. But from what another poster has said on the other thread, they started charging interest from the day he bought the book! So the book which was only £16.75 as cost nearly £60 in interest..... So I believe it's called trailing interest, I'm hoping it's now paid off, that was a very expensive book:eek:

The statements are very brief and poor and it's definitely not worked out like a normal credit card for interest purposes.
Think you had a lucky escape, they don't send notification by email or post and if you pay the full balance and think that's it, it is charging 50p a day. Doesn't sound much but it's about £15 a month interest

Not bad if you had a large credit limit and used it, but on a small balance ie: a book it's very expensive. Plus if you believe you paid in full.

I can't find that out as it's not a clear product, it doesn't work like a usual credit card nor the 'Shout' card. It's been cut up and I'm still checking no interest has been added again. Doesn't seem like many people have one:o

Can I ask, in what way is it different to any other credit card?

It appears aimed at those whith no/bad credit history, but presumably have used their pre-paid card for a while. As a card for those with poor/no credit history, as well as the APR applied, also worth checking if there is any interest free period

(Some of these types of cards offer no interest free period, even for purchase transactions)

Edit:
Not sure what they mean by:
"No UK purchase transaction fees"
Is there any credit card that does?

If you have even a Vanquis card they give you the opportunity to avoid paying interest if you pay in full by the due date. This card does not, it's not clear, and I've not been able to find what APR it charges.

I didn't mention Vanquis

The APR should be in the summary box that tells you there is no interest free period.

Here we go.

https://secure.membersaccounts.com/tc/cre-tc1/terms-and-conditions.pdf
Representative 17% APR (variable) Rates from 10% APR variable to 998% APR variable depending on individual circumstances.

It differs from most other credit cards as it appears to charge no interest, buit a daily charge of 50p (£15 max per month) on any outstanding balance above £5.
Daily charge will commence on the day You authorise a transaction which takes the Balance Outstanding (including pending transactions) above £5.00

There also appears to be a £10 annual fee applied.

...

So did the OP (or the person they care for with a similar first name ;)) - September 2013
• ***Apologies this is a long post but I think this will answer a few questions anyone may have- I certainly took some time to locate any information on the Cashplus credit card.***

I have had their pre-paid card for some time and it was helpful when I needed to make online purchases.

After ignoring many offers of "overdrafts" at an exorbitant rate, with a trip to the dentist looming and a dental plan with work, I needed the means to pay upfront so I accepted their offer of a low limit £500 actual credit card.

I was annoyed at the £10 fee but paid via the credit balance on my 'phone so didn't have any physical outlay.

The first month, I did not use the card, and received a statement dated 21st of the month, which I received on about 28th, with the nil balance.

The second month, I made some small online payments using the card, and when 28th of the month rolled around, no statement did, I left it until about 2nd and asked if they had online access. A very sharp operator advised they didn't, and when they do I'll be notified. That was me told!! Excellent customer service skills there ;)

On the 5th still no statement so I called for a balance, I was advised £10 I said no, that may well be the minimum payment, but it definitely isn't the balance, I advised again no statement, I was told the actual amount £60.50, but we all know fifty and sixty can sound similar on the phone, so I may have accidentally underpaid, had I paid £50.50. This operator advised me that the payment was due on 12th. She did apologise that I hadn't received my statement.

As you might imagine, I was more than a little suspicious by now. I tried to pay this card via my Bank Account, online, however, surprise surprise, APS/AFL were not on the list of frequently paid institutions. I rang my bank and they said to pay it as though it was to an individual.

Thankfully I received a text message from Cashplus advising they received their payment, so that was a relief.

Today I called asking for a balance, again I advised I had not received my statement, no apology from another sharp agent, went through 5 pieces of security information...I have worked in various contact centres and 3 suffice (unless they are data mining!!) and was advised of my available balance (credit he meant). I said I'd like to cancel my card, but I couldn't find the address on their "website" (which has scant information on there).

Of course I was asked my reasons, I advised not having received my statement, despite calling them more than once to advise that, their contact number is 0871 (when most have now changed to 0345), and there is no online access. I was advised I could check my balance "at any ATM" I asked why should I have to. Oddly enough there was total online access with the pre-paid card.

I have no faith that my request will be properly followed up, with this sharp operator saying he would cancel my "application" no it's my card/account.

In short, I would NOT recommend this card, even if you use it for one day knowing you have funds the next day to clear it. Their pre-paid card though is very good if you need that facility.

In addition, not on their recorded message, nor in any of my 3 telephone conversations, have they advised that their calls may be/are recorded for training and/or monitoring purposes. Very shoddy outfit, IMHO.
