though Asda covers the car (according the terms and conditions), proper RAC membership covers the person. Depends how often you use or go in other cars i guess as to whether that is a benefit ot not

It's swings and roundabouts, everyone who uses your car is covered but with the proper RAC every car you use is covered. Just have to see what suits you best.

We have the full package covering any car but I was looking at changing to vehicle cover hoping it would be cheaper but it seems not to be.

Anyone know if you can use ASDA colleague discount with this offer.

    Hi,
I think you can cancel 14 days from when you receive your papers from them, sorry if this is too late :(

Check the T&C of the above offer, and compare it to the "proper" RAC. After that, it's your choice, of course.[/quote]

As this was directly from the RAC, i don't think you can 'get' anymore proper!!

    • This gives you 24hr access to legal advice from a specialist team and up to £100,000 of cover for legal expenses.
It just gets better , renewed my car insurance today and was able to shave another £21 off the price by rejecting the legal cover as I'm now covered by the Asda /RAC breakdown policy:beer:.

Not Quite. The full Rac service also includes a feature called Onward Travel.

    See below from Rac Website.

    What is Onward Travel?

Include Onward Travel with your cover today and in the event of a breakdown, which can't be repaired locally, we will give you a choice of:
    • Overnight accommodation,
    • A hire car for up to 3 days or
    • A taxi, train or plane to any UK destination for up to £150 per person or £500 for up to 8 people.
You can continue travelling with the peace of mind that your car is in safe hands and will be taken care of.

Had to use the hire car option a couple of times in the past. Good cars. One I drove had only 150miles on the clock. Was scared stiff just in case I did something to it.

  • This is serious and everyone should take note of this - it could happen to us all!

I would like to highlight that the RAC Legal Care policy is not at all what it says it is.
They promote the benefits such as "you and your family covered in any motoring accident" Without informing you of the exclusions in the same piece of literature.
    • Legal Advice 24 hours a day 365 days a year
    • Up to £100,000 worth of cover
    • Replacement vehicle hire after a non-fault accident
    • Cover in any vehicle not just your own
RAC even compare themselves in print to other car insurance companies offering legal cover, yet they do compare their terms & conditions to those other firms.
Which in reality make their policy very much inferior and worthless to those companies compared.
For example; I declined my car insurance companies premium legal cover because on face-value the RAC offered above and beyond what Swinton legal care provided. HOWEVER, my family and I were involved in a serious motorway accident whereby our car was driven off the road by an unisured driver, our vehicle overturned twice and we had to be rescued from the smoking car. The person responsible for the accident left the scene.
Witnesses got the number plate of the hit & run driver and the police filed reports of the incident.
I've had my RAC legal Care policy for more than 5 years and never claimed, yet when I asked them to provide the replacement vehicle and possibly any other assistance in this matter, they told me under no circumstances could i claim! Due to the fact that the we did not have the name, address, plicy number and insurance company of the other driver!!!!!
They even had the audacity to say "you have to take responsibility for not reading the small print/terms & conditions"
When an insurance firm tells you that you and your family are covered in any motoring accident, why would you need to read the small print, should there even be any small print when making such a definate statement?
An accident like that could happen to anyone, you just never expect it. The irony of it all is, had I taken Swinton's (my full comp car insurance company) legal care I would have received a replacement vehichle within 4 hours of making a claim regardless of it being a hit and run non-fault accident.
I'd love to hear from anyone else having experienced similar circumstances with RAC Legal Care, as I've already submitted my story to watchdog.
