help please - are bank correct re fraud?

Anybody knowledgeable on banking rules in this instance... my sister bought straighteners online tonight and pretty instantly realised the sellers are renowned Japanese scammers. She has phoned the bank to cancel her card and the bank have said it's pointless as the company can keep taking additional amounts regardless of if she changes her card. Also that if she empties her account the bank will still authorise the payment and put her overdrawn over and over again, despite her giving them this notice that she doesn't want to authorise any more payments from this company again. Also that the bank won't block it until another 2-3 additional payments have been made? I'm sure that all can't be right?
Happy!

Make sure you CANCEL RIGHT NOW (if you haven't already).

Also contact your CC company and tell them that the Continuous Payment Authority for JustFab is revoked - they no longer have your approval or authorisation to debit your account.

That should stop any further payments. Then pursue them for the payments already made.

c/o Daytona - Bank can do this i believe even if they say they can't - dont take no for an answer - escalate up if necessary

This is not a CPA situation.

OP, the bank are largely correct, cancelling her card will not stop the retailer from taking the payment - your sister has authorised it. What she can do is file a chargeback claim if the goods either do not materialise or turn out to be fake, but she'll have to wait to action this until they have had chance to deliver.

Your sister has agreed to buy goods and given her card details to pay for them. The bank cannot stop the payment now, it's guaranteed as far as the retailer is concerned. Stopping her card won't stop the payment. The payment has already been authorised so the amount will still debit even if there is no money in the account.

    The bank are correct.

The bank are correct for this transaction, and tomtontom's post is correct for what she needs to do. However, if the seller was to try to take further amounts unrelated to the original purchase those would be unauthorised and the bank would be required to replace the money immediately.
