Excel peel centre and Newlyn Debt collectors

Hi, Huge apologies in advance for posting another thread, but I have been reading through everything on here and still am not sure what to do.
A year ago I went to peel centre carpark, bought a ticket from machine but no ticket came out. Called helpline on machine and was instructed to go to the office/shed.
I did so and gave the guy there my reg and he insisted it would be ok as he would input the reg for me. I asked again if i should just buy another ticket but he insisted it would be ok.
Guess what, ticket arrived a few weeks later...
I called them and they said they wanted proof I called the help line which I could not get as I am on giffgaff. So i just left it with them saying your machine was broken and your staff didnt do as they were instructed, I can not see what else I can do.
I also read on here (i wish I ad checked the date of threads and been more thorough) that they were safe to ignore.
Anyway here we are now a year later and Newlyn debt collecters are making threats.
Should I ignore? Complain? Try and appeal. Please someone give me some advice on where to go next?
massive thanks in advance for your time.

Peel, Newlyn, Debt Collectors etc...................
Just search here for a well trodden path.
In essence, you sit tight until and if you get court papers from Northampton then come back and read the sticky threads.0 -
all you needed to do was read ONE THREAD
the NEWBIES sticky thread at the top of the forum , with a complete section on debt collectors0 -

The above pretty much sums it up - you are at debt collector stage which is covered in the NEWBIES sticky post #4 and there is no quick fix, you have left the door open to these letters. Carry on ignoring Newlyn but if you get a LBC from Excel themselves, or court papers, come back and we can help.
It's a shame you phoned the moneygrabbing idiots rather than just emailed a challenge because you could have complained to the BPA about them not replying with a POPLA code. But you didn't appeal, a phone call is not a challenge and cannot be proven. Never deal with ANY parking ticket over the phone, not even a Council one, this is a situation which needs a paper or email trail (in future).
You could send a robust reply to Newlyn just once (as per the options shown in post #4 of the sticky thread) but don't expect them to stop the letters now they've started. Boring isn't it?! This is what it used to be like every time before POPLA existed!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

thanks all, i did draft a couple of letters, but looking at what they sent the last letter was from newlyn in feb saying they were passing it back to excel for them to prosecute me.
next contact was newlyn phoning the other day, so sounds like they are as big a joke as you all say.
not going to bother sending a response i think its a waste of time and effort.
is there any figures of how many people have been taken to court by excel and lost?0 -

Doesn't indicate results, but any court papers can be robustly defended with help from the forum.
And you need to see this in perspective, Excel issue tens and tens of thousands of PCNs every year; from these just 73 have ended in court in the past 18 months. I'd hazard a guess that excel have won around 50-60%, largely based on motorists not defending. I don't recall any motorist losing to Excel where a forum assisted defence has been provided.
Other regulars might want to add their perspectives to this, especially if they have supporting stats. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
