PPI with very little information

I have considered going down the PPI route but have done nothing about it yet. I am remarried and have old loans, bank accounts and credit cards, ex mortgages etc and all except mortgage in my name. I also have long standing credit cards.
However, I have very little info. I have moved house several times and when I divorced I threw away / shredded / burned old agreements. In fact, probably all I can remember is the name of the bank / card and my addresses.
I get stuck at the first hurdle every time.
I really need a starting point for someone like me who hasn't kept records, I have no idea whether I took out PPI but I am thinking I probably did.
I am guessing that everything associated with my joint mortgages with my ex he would have claimed years ago, and I really don't want to go down that route, so this is just for my stuff.
Thank you

I am guessing that everything associated with my joint mortgages with my ex he would have claimed years ago,
1 - you would know if he did as they would not release funds to him solely.
2 - most mortgage insurance complaints get rejected and most people would not even make a mortgage insurance complaint. So, odds are it never happened and even if it did, it probably failed.I have no idea whether I took out PPI but I am thinking I probably did.
You need to know who your lenders are. For closed accounts, the further back you go, you will likely need account numbers. not always but a lot of providers use the account number for filing on very old storage.
Once you know who your lenders were, you need to find out if you had PPI. You can ask them or do a data subject access request costing £10 (per lender). Once you know if you had PPI or not, you then need to decide what your complaint reasons are and state them in a complaint to the lender.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Right. The first one I have is a Barclaycard which i have has since about 1992 - this is still in use so I have my account number. I don't have any statements though. Would barclay card have records of whether I took out PPI. I remember exactly where I was when I took it out. I was 22 and they gave me £10,000 credit limit
I have recent statements, should I look for anything on them x0 -

This is nice and easy. Do you borrow on this card (ie not pay it in full each month)? If you do, then PPi would appear as an entry on the statement. If you dont borrow on the card then you dont pay PPI.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Thank you, will have a look when I get home. What about going back a long way, I do have some outstanding credit on my barclaycard but I know I've cleared it before and then not used it for ages before using it again, I've used it for 0% interest etc. sorry to pick your brain

If you are paying it now then chances are you were paying it in the past. However, if you are not paying it now then chances are you were not paying it in the past (as you would have had to cancel it and you would probably remember that).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I've had a successful claim on a loan with the Woolwich that I took out in 1998 and had absolutely no details of at all, other than knowing how much it was for and the branch in which I took the loan.
I just filled in the online PPI complaint form on Barclays website.
I didn't have an account number, any documentation etc.
My advice would be to get on their website and fill in the form with as much detail as you can remember - you say you've got an account number so that's even better.
Good luck!Nice to save.0
