I have just been looking at my credit file. Under closed accounts there is a listing for a settled account for Shop Direct Finance Company LTD. The account was opened 08/02/11 and closed 29/10/11 with £400 being paid every month.
The thing is, this wasn't me! I don't remember taking out any such account with them.
Is it fraudulent? It's on my file. It says settled. Will it be affecting my credit rating?
Thanks

Shop Direct Finance is the trading name for quite a lot of catalogue companies (Very, Littlewoods, ISME and others) - might you have had an account with one of them?
If it is not your account then it has perhaps been incorrectly linked to your account and could belong to someone else with the same name as you.
When you look at the account details is it listed at your actual address from that time? does it list a date of birth and is that correct?
If all payments are showing as made on time and if the account is closed then it is unlikely to affect your ability to get credit, however if you don't think it is yours I would contact the credit reference agency you used to dispute the entry and tell them it is nothing to do with you. They will then contact shop direct to query the entry.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I opened an account for Very and they gave me £400 of credit, but I never used it or ever bought anything from them0

When you are looking at your credit file does it look this?
The 0 means the payment was up to date; with the amount repaid underneath. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
And would it have been around Feb 2011 that you opened it? At a guess if you never used it then they may have decided to close it automatically after a few months.
Are you definitely reading your file correct that it states that a £400 payment was made every month? It isn't just saying that there was a £400 credit limit each of those months?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
