Unfortunately there is no partition between the cabin and the back of the van - the thief climbed over the seats to gain access to the back. There are no windows in the back of the van.0

Not an automatic show stopper - my old Ford Fiesta you could fold down the seat from inside the vehicle to gain access to the boot or just lift off the parcel shelf. None of those stop the items having been in the locked boot of my vehicle.
It may make the argument harder but I wouldnt roll over straight away.0 -
What do you suggest I do? The reason given was "unattended vehicle" not the fact that it wasn't in a boot.0

As per my first post. Read your policybook.
The one they have on their website states unattended vehicles are not covered unless the item is in the locked boot. So, assuming your vehicle was locked as you havent corrected me on that, I would respond to their decline letter with my own letter of complaint quoting their own policybook to them and stating that it was in the locked boot as required.0 -
Swinton were the broker, the insurance company are Ocaso. In the Ocaso document it has an exclusion on unattended vehicles. It doesn't say anything about locked boots.0
-
Their generic one on Ocaso's website does so perhaps its changed recently or Swintons have special wordings.
Then go down the complaints route with Swintons but I wouldnt consider your prospects too high0 -
Can you link me to where you found this please?0

Found it, thanks.0

Having said that, I wouldn't be hopeful of success. You asked where rather than what circumstances. No harm in trying though.0 -
Try the FSO. The first thing they will ask you to do is write to your insurer and the broker anyway, so you might as well get the ball rolling.0
