Really cheap, booked and confirmed - now they say price was an error

Hi all
Yesterday I spied a great deal for a hotel only booking later this year. I booked it immediately through a third party holiday website all confirmed and I was delighted.
Today they call me (voicemail) saying the price was an error and they can offer me free cancellation (I don't want to cancel obviously) or 50% discount on normal price of €120 per night. Since this is still substantially more than I paid I'm not delighted with the offer.
Can someone advise me of where I stand legally and what I can ask for please? I know at least six other people purchased this deal while I was online.
Thank you

If it was a genuine and obvious error you have the right to a full refund and nothing more. They are not obliged to offer you the 50% discount that they have.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Unfortunately they've already gone beyond what they need to do in offering a discount. As far as rights are concerned, all you're entitled to is a full refund.
If the 60€ per night cheaper than elsewhere? If so take them up on it, if not book elsewhere.0 -

It sounds like at substantially less than half the normal price it is obviously an error
If you check the Ts&Cs of the website you booked it on they will no doubt have something that covers this situation. (most websites do) Getting it half price is a very generous gesture, all they need to do is refund you what you have paid
If it seems too good to be true......0 -
Need to check the terms and it depends a little on how obvious that it was an error is.
The terms will tell you when a contract is considered formed and what rights of cancellation/amendment each party has. Rarely is a contract formed as soon as payment is made with online transactions, for goods based transactions the terms normally specify the contract is formed on sending of the goods.
There is also legislation/ guidance, I cant remember exactly what it was called, that for very obviously erroneous pricing mistakes then even if the contract is formed the merchant can rescind the contract as long as they refund all parties for their costs. This is came about/ was highlighted in a case where a TV (or such) was supposed to be £1,000 but was accidently put up at £10.00. People were buying 100+ of them and a few tried to fight that the contract was formed and the vendor obliged to fulfill the order.0 -
Your fight is with the booking agency not the hotel.
If you're like me you'll relish the challenge of pursuing the b@stards all the way.
Keep all the documentation, keep at them continually and generally make a massive fuss using every means available to you.
You may or may not succeed but treat it like a military campaign and savour the cut and thrust.
In my exerience - and I've sued and won three times over crappy holidays all settled out of court - the one thing these organisations fear is the committed consumer.0
