problem with smilies

I am unable to put any smilies on my posts that show on the right of the form I am filling in now, the beer glasses jumping up and down etc. the only ones I can post are if I do manually like : )
does anyone know how I can post them is there a setting I have turned off? I have gone through everything but still am unable to use them.

Since the site was updated a few months ago, I've been unable to use smilies when using IE11, other than by right clicking on them and copy/pasting them into my post. However when I'm using Chrome, I can still click them as normal.
I have the same problem when trying to do short links (you know like where you overtype an url with "click here" or something).
I can only do these on Chrome, since all the updates were made.

Have a look under 'Message Editor Interface' click User CP at top of page then 'Edit Options', then scroll to 'Miscellaneous Options'

You can then try using a different text editor from there.

At one point, the only way I could use them was by dragging and dropping in to my text. hth
