    IT can't get much simpler than the current process.

    Very simple form, swear the oath for a few £ at a solicitors or make a trip to the probate court and do it there.

    Though surely the Probate office check the "entitlement", of the relative applying for Administration, to apply?

    Edit: "Eligibility" might of been a better word.

    Not in any great detail.

    if you make the claim and it looks reasonable(or just lie on the form) they will issue the grant.

    They do no checks of family trees, if you say there is no will they will not check(how can they).

    eg. we(siblings) took out a grant with POA for the named executor in a will, the probate office did this with just a signed letter from the executor, they had no way of knowing if that was genuine.

    There are cases of the "wrong" person getting a grant and even if the right person they may be a wrong un.
