traditionally, the 'something' old can be a piece of jewellery? if the bride isn't wearing 'the something old'. a necklace or earrings.

Something old - do you have a piece of jewellery from a grandparent that DD could wear, or attach to her bouquet?

Something new - is DD's dress new? or shoes? does she like unusual shoes?

Something borrowed - could she borrow a veil, a handbag, a prayer book?

Something blue - could be jewellery, underwear, flowers, shoes, you can buy blue crystals that spell out "I do" on the soles of your feet, that can be seen if you have to kneel during a ceremony.

When my friend got wed a few years ago I bought a little scarab beetle ornament from the British Museum. It's an OLD symbol of renewal, it was a NEW item, they are BLUE and it was given to her on the understanding that she would give it to someone else afterwards - so it was BORROWED as well. Cost about £1 and she was so chuffed with it.

My Dad gave me his Mums gold sovereign that she used to always wear, he said that if I wanted to sell it the money could be my Nana's wedding present so to speak. But as a true sentimental person I couldn't part with it and am instead attaching it to my bouquet as my something old so it will be like my Nana is there with me on the day :)

My something new is my dress, shoes

My something blue is my garter

My something borrowed (traditionally should be from a happily married woman so I'm stumped as I don't know any!)

My something borrowed was a beautiful white parasol/umbrella which a friend of my mums let me have for the day. I'm sure it was lucky as the weather was glorious so it wasn't needed.

The something old was two tiny scraps of fabric from each of my grandmothers wedding dresses which were sewn into the inside of my dress bodice. Nobody else saw them but the grannies and I knew they were there.

My something blue was my garter as that was the easiest option I could think of!
