How long should it take a supplier to refund a credit?

Just checking SP aren't trying to screw me over, I've built up a credit of £500 with them (stupid I know, and entirely my own fault), I just called to get it paid back as we are switching suppliers and I didn't want to leave it till last minute as I've heard some horror stories on here about that not going so well...

They said it should take around 14 days?

Fair enough if that's the standard, although seeing as I can transfer money from my account to someone else's and have it appear in a matter of minutes these days I do wonder quite why it takes that long!

You'll be lucky. Fourteen days is ambitious.

'should' and 'does' are very different questions.

To be fair suppliers ought to exercise some diligence and confirm that actual reads have been used before refunding money on demand - they have to check the date of the last actual actual read rather than necessarily take a customer's word for something.

In the case of SP, I would think about 14 days as they suggested.

It took me 10 weeks and 5 snotty e-mails to get my refund from SP earlier this year. It arrived at the same time as the deadlock letter:(
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
