Applying for CC new address

Hi,

I have just bought house and moved in, the mortgage was the first credit I have got in many years apart from mobile contracts and insurance, my question is this - When will my change of address no longer affect credit decisions ? We have changed our address with our Banks, Council (electoral roll) and all other utilities as of 10/7/14.

Also I'd like a card that gives 0% on purchases and has no fees abroad as I travel frequently on business (although I have a corporate card which is not linked to my personal file)

Thanks

  • Usually 6 months after you've successfully been added to the electoral roll.

You won't get a card that has a 0% purchases period AND no fees abroad. The favourite for abroad spending is the Halifax Clarity card. The current best 0% purchases card is Tesco/Santander at 18 months 0%.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

It may be difficult, but its not impossible. I currently have that on the Santander 123 CC (but you do have to be a Santander Select customer for the no fees abroad part).

I'll look into that thanks, mortgage is with Santander anyway.

I raise you the Nationwide Select.

If you open their current account now and meet their criteria (easy enough to do - open a FlexDirect and cycle £1,000 per the account per month and get 5% interest for 12 months or open a FlexAccount and cycle £750 through and have a couple of DDs set up)

    Plus cashback on sterling purchases.

It also appears they do cards for non main account holders. In this case, you accrue a 'commission free' spend for all your sterling spends. So for every £1 you spend, you can spend 20p abroad interest free. Also has the 15 month 0% on purchases :)

That's amazing, I remember looking at the Flexdirect current account for when I fill my two TSB's, but I didn't realise they had a credit card. That's a cracking deal! Even the FlexPlus account is amazing value for money.

Wish I could get it now, but I don't want to open it until I have my TSB's filled so I can shift money across for the interest :( Just over half way there in 4 months!
