I have a HP Laptop and the fan is running constantly as the bottom is getting very hot.
Im told that the fan needs cleaning. Is this something that can be easily done or would I need to take it in somewhere?
I cant see any way to get at it. Could I use one of those spray things they use on keyboards or is that a no-no.

you can google your model and add words like clean fan, hey presto! youtube videos showing you howFriendly greeting!0

Had the same overheating problem with my Toshiba laptop and used the canned air spray. Used the extension tube to spray into the fan opening and all the dust blew out of the top speaker vents. When I opened up the laptop to replace the power jack a year later there was little dust visible.0

AFAIK cleaning the fan/heatsink on HP laptops is a bit of a chore.
On my own laptop (Cyberpower Pegatron model) it is really easy. Remove a few screws, remove a cover, remove 3 screws holding the fan, remove the fan, clean heatsink.0 -
Yep, I've done HP laptops with a combination of hoover hose on the vent and can of compressed air with the thin tube push into the intake. Laptop switched off, obviously.0

Despite the name, a laptop computer is not meant to be perched upon ones lap. You'll block the vents and cause it to overheat.
And to bust another myth, the power adaptor is also not called a "charger", the battery is meant as a backup, not as it's main power supply.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Great advice!:T:T:Tdanthemoneysavingman wrote: »you can google your model and add words like clean fan, hey presto! youtube videos showing you how
I did just this and was able to clean the fan myself. Laptop works fine now. It helps to buy a can of compressed air to blow away the dust, it only costs a fiver on eBay.0 -
Get a can of compressed air, and then
Two things...
Use the compressed air in the opposite direction to the normal airflow your laptop produces (you want to blow the dust out.. not further in!)
Use something like a cocktail stick to stop the fan spinning as you blow it out (a motor is a generator in reverse.. spin the fan with compressed air you feed voltage back into the main board... you can blow it!)0 -
Turn the computer off when using compressed air. Never ever do it whilst turned on.:footie:
