Electric Meters

I had a workshop, and although I wasn't using electricity, I was still paying £40 plus quarterly for the meter. Why can't we just buy a meter, have it sealed by the supplier, they can read it, but then, because it's ours (mine), we just pay for the electricity used. What a con!

If you are not using any energy, switch to a tariff with a £0.00 standard charge.0 -
Don't forget to pay for them to come out and read your meter, and then process and send you the bill too, plus man a call centre in case you have any queries, plus have a billing department that can process your payment.0

All apart from the meter reader are costs of sales, so should be absorbed by the unit rate rather than the standing charge.0 -

Still lit by old gas lamps is it? :cool:0 -
If you don't need electricity you could arrange for the supply to be removed.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Or you were caught by the 'only list tariffs you can switch to today' trick question on the comparison sites.0 -
There are some. But unless you use very little they may have been far down the results pages.
