Meter Fitting Panicking
I owe Utility warehouse over 2300 for gas electric phone mobile etc etc, ad a long period of unemployment and i mounted up.
Anyway today they have appled to local magistraites court to fit a meter, now ive rang them and told them i will be in when they call so they can have access to my property no problem they explained the debt would be taken off weekly useage which i accept however im now panicking like mad to the point ots making me sick that if the engineer feels he cannot fit the meter properly they will just cut my supply off, does anybody know wha the restrictions are. My cottage is 200 yrs old has a meter with one of those spinny discs in it, but ists in a box above the frnt door is around 6 ft up, theres plenty of room in it but i cant stop worrying they might just not do it)
Help

Are you referring to the gas or electricity meter? They can cut the gas off, but not the electricity.
PS: had you contacted them to voluntarily agree to fit PPM's before they applied for forced entry, you would have saved the cost of the court process and warrant. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Are you male/female/old/young/in good/poor health?
I don't think they can fit a PPM up above the door like that as it will be out of your reach and H&S will prevent it. They will have to bring it down to a usable level.
They may get away with it if you are young, male, and in good health.
It's something to ask during the install. WDP went nuts when they found my old PPM was 6ft up a wall and my OH had to stand on a step stool to put the key in!0 -
OP needs to confirm if both meters are above the door or just one, I suspect they are referring to electricity only.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Yes sorry its just the Electric meter they have applied to court yesterday and are coming next monday, its about 6ft and as im 6'2 i can reach it reasonably ok Utility Warehouse wont come to any sort of arrangement with me as they say its subject to a court order. I donta mind them fitting a PPM as i want to pay it back and then i will ring the monthly when i get paid and pay it off a bit quicker each month im just panicking they wont fot it next mon and will just cut me off will take me 6 mths to pay it off i cant go thatlong with electricity as well as me i have tropical fish in tanks im relly scared0

How are you going to pay £400 a month plus your ongoing consumption on PPM's? You will also incur the warrant cost and the PPM install costs on top of the existing debt. Clearing the debt in 6m does not seem realistic.
Presumably the reason that they won't make a debt repayment arrangement is that you didn't communicate with them until the point that they applied for the warrant? Much too late by then.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

By the time it's got to court action, the patience of most suppliers has been exhuasted. The time to contact & attempt to negotiate is when you first become aware you will have difficulty in paying the amount charged.0
