When to stop paying csa

My son left school at sixteen and enrolled in a further education three year course at his local college, he has now turned 18 he currently starts back in September on his level three NVQ joinery course he has secured a placement where he does four days a week at a local firm and one day a week at college he will be getting around £108 for his four days work is this still classed as full term education even though he will be working ?

    Approved education

Education must be full-time (more than an average of 12 hours a week supervised study and or course-related work experience) and can include:
    • A levels or similar - eg Pre-U, International Baccalaureate
    • Scottish Highers
    • NVQ up to level 3

i realise that but is the paid placement where he will be working 32 hours a week and being paid for it classed as education ?

I would guess so, like in the old days of block release, it could be deemed as supervised study whilst training.

My husband's child at 18 was on an NVQ course, child benefit was still being paid and so CSA payments were still due. If you are unsure ask the CSA to do a Child Benefit check, if they find child benefit is no longer being paid then your liability will end. - But CB can still be paid up to August, so it may not stop being paid until after then if the PWC is no longer entitled to it.

It is, but in our case she didn't and things only changed when we requested a child benefit check.
  • Well all sorted because my son has a placement to do his nvq 3 course, and he only attends college 1 day a week and is being paid by the employer he is is no longer classed as in further education. i can now get on with my life and help him directly when needed instead of my ex spending my money on her new family.

NVQ Level 3 is still a child benefit qualifier so dont go celebrating just yet because you could end up a bit disappointed!
