Have just read your diary. I used to have the same problem with my partner (and to a smaller degree still have it now).
I know how awful it feels to have to be the wet blanket and the voice of reason all the time. I felt "boring" all the time. It was difficult to get over it, even if I knew I was right to be doing what I was doing.
Send you a massive hug. Try to explain to yourself that what you are doing is not wrong. Also that nothing lasts forever, you will be debt free in the not so distant future, and then it will get easier. By then, your OH will also have got used to your changed attitude to money.
Have you shared your budget with him? Would it help? Xx* * * Catriona's Credit Card Countdown * * * from -£16k to debt neutraldom - for my debt diary click here

It was Parsniphead and very expensive!!
Well I haven't posted fr a while as I have been working a lot and have had loads on. It has not been good at all!
The dog has needed nearly £400 of treatment at the vets. Hopefully we will be able to get some of this back through pet insurance. Will find out on Monday! A family member has had some devastating news about his health (which puts the £400 into perceptive) someone tried to break in last night, we need work doing to the house which is going to cost just over £3k, I found out on Friday that the funding for my post might be pulled in December and broke my glasses.
Stupidly I went out on Saturday night and spent £90. I am so frustrated with myself. I am going to a weeding on Saturday and am trying very hard to resist buying new clothes for it.
Hope everyone else has had a better few days x0 -
Sorry in need of direction and Catriona79 I didn't see your post until today. Taking lunch to work is saving me a fortune. Tomorrows delight will be butter nut squash and spinach wraps with spicy mayo and salad (squash and wraps cost a bargain 20p-happy days!!)
I haven't shared my budget with him as to be honest he is not really interested. I have got him on board with doing a bootsale and he is loving the de-cluttering aspect (just will have to stop him buying anything when we are there)
I have got him to agree that August will be a totally MSE month in the hope that it will let him see how much interest we can save/debt we can pay off if we try without having to sacrifice too much.0 -
Pressed send too quickly!!
Well I managed to resist the temptation of buying a new outfit for yesterdays wedding and I spent a grand total of £100. That included the hotel, drinks all night, £20 sponsorship I owed out and taxis. So all in all much, much cheaper than I had planned for and added bonus about limiting the amount of alcohol I bought hang over free this morning
My plan for our totally MSE August is to ......
*make £500 from the bootsale and Eb@y sales,
*take lunch into work EVERY day,
*have at least 20 NSD
*stick to a budget of £50 for the month
*Exercise 4 times a week (not money related I know)
*De-clutter the WHOLE house and both gardens!
Hope you all have a lovely Sunday

This thread seems to be me confessing to my slips ups instead of writing about how well I have done.
Budget has been blown already and I have £23 to live off until the end of the month!! £10,000 seems like an impossible amount to pay off with the added extra things that have cropped up this month
I am thinking of getting a loan to pay off the one credit card and then transferring the balances of the other two back and forth to 0% deals until it's paid off. I am not doing anything until November so hopefully something amazing will happen before then.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a new day and I will feel more motivated. Hubby and I have planned sorting out all the items for the bootsale as our spare room is rammed full of stuff and we have guests staying in a few weeks.
Hope you are all well x0 -
Keep going you will get there I have only been here a week and I cant believe how my emotions regarding the debt vary so much so frequently.
