Hey Forumites, looking for some advice please,
I had a mobile contract some years ago with EE (formerly t-mobile) which went into default.
I couldn't pay the debt at the time and it was passed onto a solicitors. I then came to an agreement with the solicitors to pay a settlement fee which was £100 less than the actual debt.
My question is, recently checking my credit report this debt is showing as 'defaulted'. So I called EE and they said I still owed them £100?
Is this correct as I do have proof that i paid a settlement fee, and would have thought that this would now show as partially settled.
I am more than happy to pay the outstanding debt as I am in a much better position financially but I am worried if I do that it will then show for another six years on my credit report?
Thanks

To be honest I would fight it. It looks like you have reason enough to have it removed.
It will show on your credit report for 6 years from the date of the default.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks for the speedy reply McKneff.
What would be the best way of doing that? Directly with EE via a complaint or through an ombudsman?
I've just checked and the date of default was the 10/10/2008 - so I guess this would drop off on 10/10/2014, is t still worth fighting as the drop off date is only 3 months away?
Thanks again0 -
Unless you are being hassled for the £100 it may not be worth it?
If you do then you have to complain and then if not resolved after 8 weeks take it to http://www.cisas.org.ukFree/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

You paid a partial settlement figure and so the collection agency has recorded it as such.
This is often overlooked by people in terms of how the reduced settlement will be recorded as to whether it has been a partial or whether it was accepted in Full & Final Settlement.
Granted many would be happy that they were able to make a payment and be done with being pursued further for it.. since the 6 years are nearly up its possibly less hassle to leave that to expire - otherwise if they were to mark it as now satisfied - it could be troubling to make sure that the old date flag is still used..0 -
Your agreement to pay has nothing to do with the default - it remains an accurate description of the conduct of the account. Indeed, the only way to negotiate this at the tine is to state that as a condition of payment, the default is removed.
If this was not done, then it remains as an accurate reflection of the conduct of the account. Many believe payment removes the record, but it never has done.0 -

If the default happened and is correctly dated, then it stands, even if you later settled the debt for a reduced amount.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
