Called in for an interview

Hi,

I got a letter from my OR requesting me to attend an interview, which would take 3 - 6 hours apparently.

I am a little bit concerned about this as first of all I was under the understanding that in most cases they did it over the telephone and secondly that 3 to 6 hours is a very long time. I am not sure what takes that long to discuss.

Has anybody been to an interview that might shed some light on what happens?

Did you have a business? Are you self employed?
  • They will probably want to go over your SOA in detail with you. Is your BR complicated? Are there issues of land ownership or something else that takes your BR into complex territory?

The request for interview doesn't mean that they don't believe what you have said & they are not positioning you for fraud or trying to hide assets necessarily, it means that they need very detailed answers for some parts of your form or that they need you to be very clear about explaining something in your paperwork that they don't quite understand.

Don't worry, just be honest with them & it will be OK.

There is no bussiness involved or land ownership. I guess they might just want to go over my SOA. However everything on there has a reasoning behind it, and I was blatently honest on my reason for BR so I have nothing to hide I suppose. I just felt like it is a long time.

I had to go into interview because I was self employed.....but as the other poster has said don't worry, I had built myself up terribly by the time I went, but I took my husband with me for support and she went through my 'statement' which she wrote out by hand about how I got myself in the situation I had. In my circumstances some of it had a medical background so I took details for people they could contact if they have queries on that, there was no 'late' 'frivolous' spending to discuss, and even though they say that is the estimated time, it may well be over sooner. The reason in my experience they give such long estimations for time is because they handwrite the interview and if you have an IPA they will calculate there and then if you want - it took her half an hour to that in my case alone, plus she broke for lunch! So don't worry yourself.....

Wasn't part of your reason for bankruptcy, gambling? they may wish to look into this further to see how much of a part this played in your bankruptcy along with your bi-polar.

OP is egrescrimp correct re the bi-polar? I haven't had time to search the rest of your threads, but if this the case I may be able to offer some further guidance as this was the medical element to my BR that I mentioned earlier and they did write to my CPN.....so if you confirm either way I'll eithers shut up (!) or could possibly help further....

Yes it was, although most of that was over 2 years ago. I estimated in the 2 year period that they asked for that there was a gambling loss of about £3500.

I was very clear on my reasoning though about the losses pre 2 years and I hope that the total honesty on my part may rule in my favour when it comes to undertaking a BRO.

I agree that I deserve a BRO however I am hoping for no longer than 3 years, due to my medical history that goes along with the problems.

Are you under the local Mental Health services? Do you have a CPN?

Yes I was diagnosed bi-polar and undergone treatment and medication for it, specifically highetened around the time the problems started.

There is detailed history in my medical file, however there is some disagreement between doctors since I moved area and the latest consultation said that the specialists down south were wrong and I had dysmythia instead, but with all respect he came to that conclusion in 2 hours flat where I had around 20 hours of consultation down south and even my GP thinks the new consultant is wrong.

I stopped their treatment, because they just wanted me to take this drug and that drug and the olanzapine and setraline that they put me on originally played a major part in the problems that I obtained.
So as you can understand I didn't want to take the medication as it completely changed my personality last time and I have ended up divorced because of it,
