Would the DD still go ahead and therefore put me in credit on my card ?

Probably! - The DD will have to be pulled manually out of the system and you will have to advise the card company to do so.

Play the system as is to your advantage: If the minimum payment is £25 and you want to pay £100, transfer £75 and wait for the DD to make up the intended amount.

But you do need to get the timing right (especially with Vanquis).

I've noticed that if a payment is made 5-6 working days before the DD is due to be taken then the DD is not taken that month (providing that the additional payment is at least the minimum payment due).

The DD must have been in the process of being collected and your payment didn't trigger a cancellation of it.

Can you do a claim back via your bank for the DD? An indemnity claim I think it is called.
All that glitters is not gold.

The amounts isn't the problem.....I paid 270 extra onto the account and the min amount of 40 was taken by direct debit.

It's just for my understanding that's all

Dangerous move, that could trigger a missed payment.
