If you haven't done already, put all the issues to them in writing and ask them to sort the problems out. Give them a timescale, after which you will go to court. Get a receipt of postage from the post office. This will be acceptable as evidence that they've received your letter. Don't send recorded delivery as they may not collect it. Verbal communication is easy to deny.

Yeap, did that on day 2, and not hear anything back since.

I honestly don't think they have the ability to fix these problems, as they think that this work has been done, as far as they are aware, 'in accordance with standard practice' and I honestly think they believe they have done a great job here!

So the recommendations from numerous people to date is to throw them out, especially given the verbal discussions on the first call due to a breakdown while I still had a bargaining chip over them, how would it be once they were paid!

When you say they are winding up the business and you have a 25 year guarantee, is the guarantee underwritten by a third party? Otherwise, if they are no longer in business, your guarantee will be worthless.

Won't the manufacturer warranty still stand? After all, the majority of laminate is a diy installation.

It would have stood if it was installed properly... Its not been, so no its not. And that's half the problem.
  • Quick update for those that were interested - they have come back and removed the flooring, and in doing they showed that they havedn't removed the tiles and hardboard in the kitchen, but only the top layer of flock lino. And under that was a brick wall that had been knocked down, and the floor boards on one side of the wall were approx 6mm below the other side, so no wonder the flooring was wonky!

Anyway - new flooring has gone in, and it's looking ten tonnes better.
