Egg credit card PPI?

I recently had a letter saying that I am entitled to claim compensation from PPI I took out on an Egg credit card around 12 years ago.
I don't even remember if I had this insurance with the card so I certainly don't remember if I "needed or wanted it" or not!
Does this sound legit? I have also moved house a couple of times since I had the credit card so how have they even tracked me down? Is this a con?

That doesnt sound legit.
If it was a CCL, then it would just state that you had PPI, give a list of examples of reasons for mis-sale and invite you to complain if you feel you were mis-sold. However, you say it says you are entitled to compensation. So, that is not a CCL. If Egg felt you were entitled to compensation then they would pay it. They wouldnt tell you to claim it. There is no pot of money to claim from.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Who is the letter from?0

It was from Canada Square Operations, formerly known as Egg Banking plc according to the letter. It says their records show I purchased a CRP policy with my Egg credit card and that it may have been mis-sold to me (sorry doesn't say I'm entitled to compensation)
Still not sure whether or not to fill in the form as I don't remember much about it being so long ago!0 -
Do you still have an open account on your card ?It was from Canada Square Operations, formerly known as Egg Banking plc according to the letter. If so Canada Square are dealing with them its possible it is legit , maybe a good idea to ring them .
Closed or defaulted accounts I believe that Barclay's are dealing with them .Light travels faster than sound.
This is why some people seem as bright until you hear them.0 -
What address does it say to send it back to?Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

The address is
Canada Square Operations
PO Box 4903
Worthing
BN99 3AR
Think I'll give them a ring and find out what's going on I don't remember ever closing the card but I'd paid off my last bill and just never used the card again probably silly thing to do really I should have cancelled the card but I was young and naive!0 -
That's the genuine address for Egg, but I very much doubt your letter actually said you can "claim compensation".
Regardless, if you feel the insurance was mis-saold then you are invited to complain and the Bank will investigate your concerns.
Do note that you won't have been paying PPI while your account had a zero balance, so not formally cancelling the card after you ceased using it will have cost you nothing.0 -

.
I posted after my original post saying that after re-reading the letter it doesn't say that it says I may have been mis-sold it etc.0 -
How long ago did you cease using the card? If it was a long time ago, there may not be much to refund. As I said, remember that credit card PPI is only paid when the account has a balance. No point complaining (or even mentioning) that you neglected to formally cancel the card. Also, don't use the phrase "young and naive" as it makes your complaint sound like it comes from a template.I posted after my original post saying that after re-reading the letter it doesn't say that it says I may have been mis-sold it etc.
Good luck..0
