No claims bonus/named driver query

My wife and myself have decided to get rid of 1 of our 2 cars and just share the 1 car.
If i am registered as the main driver and my wife as the named driver will she still continue to keep her 13 years No Claims Bonus as a named driver??
I have no idea, just curious because when i travelled several years ago and didnt drive for 3 years i lost all my bonus. Although she will still be driving.
I do know that as a named driver not all insurance companies allow them to earn a bonus. So i presume she will just be stuck on 13 years??
many thanks

If she has a policy in her name with her own no claims it will be valid for 2 years. Maybe 3 with the CO-OP but everyone else its 2 years. After that she will lose it.
Named driver on your policy wont use her no claims. So unless you swap each year or every other year they will be lost.
Nobody really cares after 9 years. So i doubt putting 9 or 13 makes any difference.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
ok thanks
i guess we will do the swopping over as main driver and named driver every 2 years.
although will some insurance companies expect the main driver to also be the registered owner?0 -
What matters with NCB is who the policyholder is, not who the main driver is. To keep both NCBs you need to take out the policy one year, and your wife the next. The main driver does not usually have to be the policyholder, there'll be a separate question about which of you is the main driver if the insurer wants to know.
Answer the questions and read the assumptions about who is the main driver, who is the owner and registered keeper etc carefully but where spouses are concerned most insurers are not to worried about which of you is the RK. If you were trying to insure a car registered in your teenage son's name it might be more of an issue.0 -
.... To keep both NCBs you need to take out the policy one year, and your wife the next.....
The moneysaving way to do it is for the partner who gets the cheapest quote buys the policy for 2 years (as that's the norm for "old" NCD to be accepted), then the more expensive partner buys it for one year just to keep the NCD alive.0
