Does being exposed to a strong sun make anyone feel ill?

Is there such thing as 'Sunstroke'? That is the sun's rays having a direct effect on the body, as opposed to plain old heatstroke caused by not enough fluid or cooling?
I often feel physically ill after being in the sun for more half an hour. Strange thing is I never feel thirsty or sweaty, just groggy, tired and fatigued. Half of me seems to be too hot the other too cold!
The high humidity together with the sun between the clouds made it feel like a sauna this morning. The field and crowd made it into a viscous heat trap, and bizarrely it poured down later! A drink didn't help, however two hours rest indoors and I'm fine.

I'm like this too! It knocks me sick - even just 10 mins. Our garden is a lovely sun trap and I often think I'd love to sit out and enjoy it but I have to wait until late on.
So when it's sunny, I'm often found inside with the blinds closed and all the doors open!!0 -
Being photosensitive is common enough that there are special clothing ranges which are better sunblock than normal cloth. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I wear a hat and dark glasses and it still makes me ill. Haven't been abroad for yrs because I don't enjoy it. Staycations all the way for me!0

I have M.E and I feel ill in strong sun. I wait til it's 4ish and cooled down a bit to sit outside, and I have just bought a hat to shield my face, as heat make my face go beetroot red as I also have rosacea .Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE0

I much prefer autumn/winter for this exact reason. I am not a fan of being too warm at all and find hot, sunny days really difficult. I do not like being sat in the sun, and will always try and sit in the shade if I can and only if there is a breeze too. If it is a sweltering hot, very still day I just can't stand it. I feel sick, uncomfortable, incredibly lethargic and just generally blah! I tend to find wearing hats and sunglasses just gives me a headache even quicker than if I was without them too, weird I know, I must just be super sensitive!0

Yes, I'm the same - I really can't sit in the sun for very long as it starts to make me feel sick and dizzy. I really don't know how people can sit out for hours on end, I've never been able to, even as a child. OH is much the same, he's very sensitive to light and wears sunglasses pretty much all year. I've always said he's half man, half mushroom as he's much happier in dim places! The summer makes him really miserable.0

I have Fibro so it is probably related - i am hypersensitive to a lot of things. I'm terrible for smells as well.0 -
I get something similar, even being in direct sun for 10 minutes can make me feel giddy, out of sorts, not well. I know I should get a hat, but I only remember when I'm in the sun and not feeling great.0

Perhaps this is a case for buying a parasol?0
