Can an elderly mother sell her house and give her son some/all of the money?

    No-one can say yes or no. You'd have to argue your position if the need for residential care ever came up.

    Are you really happy with the idea of spending your retirement in rented accommodation when you might have move every six months or so?

    I wouldn't have taken the money if my parents had come up with an idea like this.
