How can I find out what plants I've got?

I have been given a lot of plants/flowers over the past few months from people who know I'm 'trying' to do my garden up. Trouble is I have no idea what they all are!

I need to fill some space in the front garden but I don't want to plant flowers that are unsuitable or may grow too big. Is there a good website I can use to identify them all as it would take a fair while for me to keep asking you all on here :o

Many thanks in advance :)

Can't you ask the people who gave them to you? Even if they don't know the name they will know the size, what sort of flowers etc which would help with identification.

  • A lot of them have been given to a family member to give to me so it's a bit difficult,

crocus.co.uk have pictures of many plants, failing that just post some pics here. Most plants get IDed that way eventually...

We like ID-ing plants. Easier than the Times crossword, of a Sunday.

Take photos. Ask for Plant Id please.

Put them on here and other sites such as growsonyou.

    Gardeners love iding plants.

You need to use a photo hosting site like flikr or photo bucket.
There is a thread somewhere telling you how, but I can never find it when I need it.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    I use photo bucket

I upload the photo to photo bucket
Then on the RHS of the photo when it has been uploaded are some boxes headed 'links to share this photo'.

Just click on the 'direct link' box and the link will be copied to your clipboard.

Then go to your MSE post and click on the 'insert image' icon

Delete the 'http' that comes up and then right click your mouse and paste the link on your clipboard to the photobucket image.

Click on OK and the photo should now be inserted into your post.;)
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
