Is this a purchase?

Hi All,

Hope someone can help or has had a similar experience.

I am looking to order some travel money online (euro) and wondered if I purchase it using my Barclaycard which is still in a 0% promotional period for purchases, will it count as a purchase and not cash?

Thanks

I believe this is treated as a cash advance, as are travellers cheques and gambling and betting. Cash advances are olso included, but some CC allow money tranfers like MBNA and you pay transfer fee's.
  • It will be treated as cash, I wouldn't recommend you do it.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

The purchasing of money is generally considered a cash advance.

There are/were some exceptions (don't know if they still exist), such as purchasing M&S travel money on a M&S card.

Tesco have a similar offer, however buying in this country (at a bank or high street bureau de change) before you go will be around 4-5% more expensive than using one of the best overseas (credit and debit) cards.

Yup, still works. I got a few Euros last month to have some immediately available on exit from the Tunnel. Still waiting for the bill. :)
