Investing in the USA from a US bank account

I worked for a while in the US and have some dollars in a bank account over there currently earning zero interest. I don't want to repatriate this cash at the moment due to the poor exchange rate.

I'm thinking of investing it over there, probably in some sort of mutual fund. Can anyone help with pointing me towards a way of doing this? The bank it's with (efirstbank) don't offer this sort of thing, so I'd need to move this money somewhere else. I'm thinking maybe there's some sort of Hargreaves Lansdown think I could join?

Thanks for any help.

I know many in the US use Fidelity or Interactive Brokers. Not sure what range of funds they offer though, most I know deal with individual stocks.
Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
