josie_ann57 wrote: »Thank you TM, he and husband are staying with us for the final week before they go, so hope to do lots of memorable things. Thank goodness for skype so I can at least 'see' him often. More important than ever to save pennies now as saving up to visit him. I am so proud of him, he has got a job as maths teacher in the best grammer school in Brisbane, first ever skype interview and job application for Australia. He's only 25.
Here is the recipe TM
Runner Bean Pickle
Makes about 4lb.(2kg)
An excellent way of preserving those runner beans that seem to come all at once
Ingredients:
• 2.5 lbs.(about 1kg) runner beans
• 1.5 pints (900ml) distilled vinegar
• 1.5 lbs. (675g) onions
• 10 oz. (275g) demerera sugar
• 1 level tbsp. turmeric
• 2 level tbsps. dry mustard powder
•2 level tbsps. cornflour
Cooking Instructions:
1. String the beans and slice diagonally into three quarter inch (2cm.) pieces
2. Peel and slice the onions
3. Pour one pint (600ml.) of the vinegar into a pan, add the runner beans and onions, then cover and simmer for about 15 minutes or until just tender
4. Blend the cornflour, turmeric and mustard into a paste with a little of the remaining vinegar
5. Add to the pan with the sugar and remaining vinegar
6. Bring to the boil then reduce heat and simmer gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally
7. Spoon into sterilised jars and cover with vinegar proof lids.
Enjoy:)
Thanks Josie...I will give this a try

Sal are you feeling better?
Yes.Still got what turned into a heavy cold.Eyes are bad as well. The drops for glaucoma dry the eyes out even more in the summer so have to use cellivisc drops 4 times a day as well. What with the cataracts as well can't spend so much time on pc.Kichen is almost done though so the weekend will be spent putting the stuff back.0 -
Interesting - has anyone done this in a Sada v Morribobs shop today - ie bought the surf or the Persil 500 ml WULS - and if so what flavour compared or didn't compare?
3 flavours???Savvybuyer wrote: »No it isn't:p - it doesn't get anywhere near 10p a wash even after 10%. I've disliked it ever since it was downsized to 23 washes:(. You're right - ones in A say they are 25 washes on msm (is this really the case?). I have a £4 Surf, hopefully one of these, on a womble so may find out if it goes vs M's 23-wash size (would be good if is 25 pack in A and compares to 23 pack without any price adjusting). I mentioned the Surfs yesterday, but half-minded to wait on the womble as not sure if new price collection has been put into the system yet and may give us no clues if I hit the button too soon (then again might still make no difference even if inputted tomorrow). Watch them buy the non-comparable Sunshine Lemons:(:rotfl:.
I mentioned the Persil WUL too - or, if I didn't specifically expressly say so, I included it on the M list in any event. Not as good as other prices we were getting and own brands may be cheaper - I have three versions as being against M (again we don't know if they will be picked up until tried/wombled) - Lemon, Apple and Pink - they're on the list as 'okay enough' to make it to there!:)“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. josie_ann57 wrote: »Afternoon all, someone mentioned losing an online apg when ordering the next time, if the collection price is lower than the apg used. My apg is for £22 and I have an order in for £36.87 (3 airwicks and fillers) do I need more in my order so I don't lose out please? I still have time to amend as c&c is 15'00 tomorrow.
I think after this I wil stick to the occasional store shop as this is too stressful and difficult to work out!:(
Does / will any one have an abundance of green beans that they need a recipe for?:)
Finished work for 6 weeks today:T:j Only downside is, is that it's closer to my DS1 emigrating to Brisbane in August
Yes, please. TIA0 -
Afternoon all!
I'm after a bit of advice: we're off to Mevagissey in Cornwall tomorrow for 3 nights and I don't know the area at all, so I was wondering whether anyone here could recommend places to go/things to do/somewhere to eat that isn't too far away? We're going to the Eden Project using the tickets I won on a supersavvyme comp (:j) but nothing else planned so far. DH and I like seeing and doing things rather than shopping, but I think it's due to rain rather a lot on Saturday and Sunday so I need to come up with some indoor things to do!
If you or your other half are beer drinkers, a visit to St Austell Brewery in the middle of St Austell is worth trying. The brewery tour is interesting in itself and you get plenty of included samples. The Hicks Bar is good for food too - entry fee is from £8 for Seniors nd they have plenty of free parking. Its good value.
The Holmbush Inn in St Austell ( almost next door to Tesco) does excellent fish and chips as well as a range of other decent food.
The Adrenalin Rush up near Liskeard is good fun if you fancy a hairy ride.
Google them and you will get full details.ELITE 5:2
