I do not upgrade, I simply replace when necessary. My laptop is now 4 years old, well maintained and still going OK, my tab is 3 years old and going fine.
I have a friend who is fascinated by the amount of coupons that I end up with, problem is she calls me an extreme couponer but she does not know the half of it. When I tell her about coupons she complains she does not have the time, I simply tell her that I MAKE time and so could she, she has plenty of time to watch downloaded movies! Anyway, I have never told her about things like the Cravendale coupons, and certainly did not tell her about the F&F glitch, she would have expected me to do both for her!
She is an upgrader, they have all the latest Apple stuff in the house, they are supposedly broke but she got her OH a PS4 for his birthday! She can't afford new tops but bought two the other week.
She was about to spend "just £40" on something last week, I told her I didn't spend that on shopping in a month, then suddenly realised that was true, yet we probably live far better than them. And she simply does not have time to do it!
I was looking for the cheap shower gel in As today, first chance I've had, obviously it was not there. She found a label with 50p on it for one, I said not that one, she thought it was unlikely to be cheaper so I told her one was meant to be 2p and she accused me of going nuts  I hadn't even told her the flavour lol
Ahh, but when you replace, do you get the then newest model, at top-whack price, or do you get the one that's just gone out of being 'new', that does much the same job, for much cheaper?
And, remember, the battery lives themselves are low etc. - in order to make you have to replace that much more often.
Programme showed - am I spoiling it? - SPOILER ALERT -
Printer cartridges set to count down and expire at the end of the set number of prints. People automatically go and buy again once that happens - printer says 'cartridge empty'/'new cartridge needed' etc. In fact, if you know how, you can rewind the cartridge to start the countdown again, and it can run a further two times extra in addition! In other words, people are replacing them (and rewarding the manufacturer by paying them money to buy another cartridge) when they are one-third used:(:(.
Then again, the miscreants always get rewarded in this society:(, whilst the decent hard-workers get done by:(.0 -
