I haven't tried this yet but may be a way to downgrade your A iPhone app back to the scanning version .

Switch off auto update of apps under Settings>ITunes and App Store> Automatic Downloads>switch off Updates. Then follow instructions on:

I am willing to forego the auto updates to keep the APG scanner! Whatever update they applied on 9th July removed the functionality.
