ups have broken my side gate

Hi,
A couple of months ago I had a low value item being delivered. So I left the side gate unlocked and told ups to let themselves through and leave it by the backdoor.
Yesterday I had a delivery while I was out, the gate was locked but the delivery person has forced it open, bent it out of shape so it doesn't close properly and deposited a high value item without me signing.
Who is in the wrong? I presumed my message was for one delivery only and they wouldn't do any damage to my home

I guess you have an issue with proof.
It's very likely the delivery driver bent it but you didn't see him do it.
I would take pictures of everything, the gate, where the parcel was left, . the gate before damage if you have it. Do you have a neighbour who may have witnessed or heard the gate being forced?
Also get 2 quotes on fixing the gate.
Once you have your evidence, find out the UPS complaints procedure and send your evidence with a letter stating just the facts (no "feelings") there, cc the chief exec office. Make sure you include your remedy ie. pay you £75 for fixing the gate.
You may have to end up in small claims court.0 -
Why not contact UPS stating that you were expecting a delivery yesterday but you are unable to find the package and ask if they will find out from the driver where they left it.
You never know, you might get a reply saying that the driver opened the gate to make the delivery.
If this happens, you could then state that you have found the item at which time you discovered that as the gate was locked, the driver damaged the gate by forcing it open.
Whatever reply you get, you should still inform them that you have found the package that was delivered.
Is there any online tracking that states exactly where the package was left?0 -
Your gate lock was rubbish, poor quality, innefective and useless and a waste of time having it. They've done you a favour.
Look on the bright side. Send them a letter of thanks.
They've woken you up to the fact you need a better quality gate lock to secure your property.0 -

My sympathies as not only have you had your property damaged but you seem to have attracted the attention of the Idiot Tendency here on MSE.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Ask UPS where your parcel is as your tracking says delivered but you can't find it. UPS say they left it in your back garden, ask how they possibly could have done that seeing as your gate was locked. UPS say it can't have been as the driver went through the gate, thusly provide pictures of damaged gate along with quotes0
