Should I book a double or triple room in Budapest?

Hi!
I am looking at hotel booking for my partner, 3-year old son and I for a couple of days in Budapest at the end of May.
Most hotels in Budapest (according to the web site) do not charge for children under 12.
Question: Should I enter Double or Triple room for searches?
BTW, for those who has been to Budapest before, any recommendations for a decent centrally 3* located hotel that will make visiting the sights a breeze?
Also, any recommendations on where to take a 3 year kid?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there
I'm planning on going through Budapest at the same time as you with my 3 year old- en route to Turkey! I bought a little Rough Guide to Budapest for a fiver (usually £7!). Haven't sorted out sleeping yet- we're looking at v cheap considering the length of the entire trip.
Anyway, I am hoping to visit the outdoor baths- whichever we end up closest to; general sightseeing and funicular to Varhegy; the 'Railway Circuit'- a cogwheel railway, railway run by kids, then a chairlift; the Rail Heritage Park (https://www.mavnosztalgia.hu) and maybe Szentendre on the Danube bend which I believe you can get to by boat. We will have 3 days so I may be being a little optimistic!
Buy a guidebook, I think its probably worth it! Have fun!0 -
Hi,
We went to budapest in December 2004, Its a fantastic city, We was told MAY was the best time to visit good luck.
Couple of tips: NEVER EVER hail a taxi in the street, you will get ripped off, always book via the hotel or better still .........
Buy a travel card from the hotel, its valid on the bus and metro & trams ,great value for money, similair to london travelcard.
Thier public transport system is fantastic very frequent and reliable runs till about 23.00.
if you want transport from the airport you can book on line its f5000 (about £15) well worth it. you pay the driver at your destination, you can also book a return as well.
link here https://www.hotelonlinehungary.com
click on airport pickup ( you dont have to book a hotel from them ) just click to say you have, they send you a confirmation email ,and the guy meets you at the airport with a name board.
We stayed at the Hotel charles worked out about £40 for a double including a great breakfast, very basic room 5 mins on bus from city centre.
ASk for a inside room, less traffic noise ,you pay a bit extra its worth it.
https://www.charleshotel.hu its best to ring them up for reservation that way you will get an inside room )tel no on website)
Try and visit the schnezi open air thermal Baths - take your trunks with you.
if you go after 17.00 its a lot cheaper ,thats when all the locals go there.
Im sure you enjoy you stay in budapest we did , we want to go back soonIt's nice to be Important
But It's Important to be nice0 -
Hi purplemoon - Thanks for the info. A kind Hungarian who lives in Budapest suggested the following. You already have some of them on your list. Please be aware some of the url doesn't work when I click on it a few days ago.
- Ship tour to Szentendre (this is a nice little town, with a skanzen http://www.skanzen.hu/engn/index2.html) and Visegrád (http://www.visegrad.hu/). The timetable for the ships can be found here: http://www.web-set.hu/_Mahart_P/mahartpassnave_en.htm.
- Children's Railway (http://www.gyermekvasut.hu/english.html)
- Railway museum (http://www.vasuttortenetipark.hu/) there will be a special program on Children's day (28-29 May) and a Candle-lit Express tour on 27 May
- Budapest Amusement park (http://www.vidampark.hu/english/indexe.html), Budapest Zoo (http://www.zoobudapest.com/en/index.html) and Museum of Transport (http://www.museum.hu/search/museum_en.asp?ID=43). These are close to each other in the middle of a big park
- Millenáris park (http://www.millenaris.hu/index.php?lang=en)
- There is Open Air Aircraft Exhibition near the Ferihegy Airport, just by the way out from the Airport. (http://www.bud.hu/english/services/...open_air_museum)
- Tropicarium (http://www.tropicarium.hu/_lang/eng/flash_eng.htm)
- Palace of Miracles (http://www.csodapalota.hu/main/english/index.htm)
Hi mateyboy - Thanks for the tips. Have just booked my air tickets and hotel this morning. Have decided to use a cheap hotel near Heroes Square as it is near to most of the places we want to visit with the little one. Breakfast is included. Just hope the room is clean.0 -
Cheers for that lot kawan2! Just managed to get back online. Do you just turn up for the boat trips do you think, or is booking (or getting there very early) neccesary?
Have a great trip!0
