    Good morning,

Thank you MOS for the candle tutorial, DS and I keep meaning to try and do it, with the leftover pieces of scented candles. He loves burning scented candles in his room when he is doing his music recordings so I always get some for him. He has kept all the leftover bits. I shall look at the Bay land for the wicks.

Today is a busy day but no time for housework or to tackle the laundry mountain which, following a few dry days, has become humongous. Not to speak of the ironing mountain, who is the b*$tard child of the laundry mountain!

DH has to be fed and watered and given a pack lunch first thing, then I have herbal med clinic as I have finished the medicine. Then I have a mystery shop, which includes a lunch, but then straight away a long questionnaire to fill. Then counselling, then prepare dinner.

I think that this weekend will see me tackling my nemesis, the ironing! It's got to be done, otherwise I shall cave in and pay someone to break its back. A friend of DD's does it and her rates are cheap, and she needs the work so it is very tempting. But not OS.

    Have a good day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I am sorry I cannot recommend the main builder who did the job for us, although he did good work, he has a bad attitude problem and does not work full days. You can ask in your local ironmongery shop or builders merchants, they usually have a few people's cards. Get at least 3 quotes.

Which !magazine, I believe, has a list of approved and trusted builders.

    Good luck.

    Hello
Loving this thread so far. Only on page 10 but enjoying the read so hope it's ok to tag along. Due to a change in employment our income has more than halved. I know we will be ok and will manage ok if I get my head in gear and get organised, especially with food, we've been wasting far too much money on nothing really. So hope it's ok for me to tag along, already you have all inspired me and I've still got a lot of pages to get though to be bang up to date with you all!

Been busy all week so not got round to posting.
Been fairly OS - lovely meal with friends last weekend and not expensive and stressfree as cooked in slowcooker.
Spent time cleaning house and have kept it tidy the rest of the week.
I have done more digging in the garden and also moved a coldframe to a more suitable place. It made the trip without falling apart.

Meals have been from freezer this week and low spend in supermarket.

Managed to get round to some mending and repaired a couple of holes in jumpers and also fixed some clothes I wear in the garden.

I have decluttered some drawers and sorted some books out to take to League of Friends shop at the local hospital.

    Good morning,

Welcome Primula, I hope you will enjoy reading this thread and look forward to reading your posts.

Hello villagelife, lovely to see you again. Your post reminded me that I have a few books to take to our local community centre, they sell them to fund their older people lunch club.

Today is dedicated to house matters, but first I shall walk to w8rose through the park with my friend. I might or might not buy something there, I just go for the walk and the free hot drink. If I buy £10 worth of stuff I can also get a free newspaper, but today I don't need much. When they have good offers on mature cheddar I get it, last week I got 2 x 500g blocks for £6 and their cheese is delicious, well worth it. Their offers are quite good so it is worth checking them just in case.

I have the laundry mountain weighing on my soul, so I hope to do something about it, but I also need to go and buy aluminium curtain rails. My roman blinds both in the bedroom and in the living room are in tatters. The bedroom ones are too thin and flimsy and the living room ones are a set that I made ages ago and really don't like, I am just going to give them to a CS and get curtains from dun-elm. I have seen a fabric pattern that I really love and they are very reasonably priced too.

Not much adventure then today, but all stuff that needs to be done.

    Have a good OS day.

Edited to add: MOS, I have ordered some wicks, am very excited about making my own candles, will let you know how it goes!

  • I love this thread. I found myself lurking and not posting anywhere for 3 or 4 months after our dd was born, and I'm gradually finding my "me" time is back after the kiddos are in bed (really, just meaning I've now got some spare energy when they're in bed and I'm not up all night feeding!)

We're 7 months into my maternity leave and are always pretty os. We live out in the woods in a very farm-based region so it makes it pretty easy to use lovely local/free range and organic eggs, meat, veggies etc. It does mean we spend a little more on our food, but that just means we've learned to be creative with it and never waste anything.

Weekends are my favourite days (I love having ds and dd both here & we usually make sure we have a special family meal on one of those days when hubby's not working). Plus, this is day 1 of hubby having 9 days of holiday...so lots of lovely family time & picnics are planned. :T

Today I'll be cleaning upstairs, checking the never-ending washing cycle continues and we'll all take ds to his golf lesson in the afternoon. Tonight's "pizza-bar" night leading into some XF :rotfl:

We have leftover spiced pumpkin cake leftover from a major bake yesterday too (I have a feeling 1 of those and a milky coffee will be in my evening relaxation time!)

Hope you're all having a lovely Saturday. :) It's glorious sun here and although I've finished my porridge I'm still sitting in the sun enjoying the end of the pot of tea and staring out at the garden and fields. I love this time of year.

Oooh, meant to add...we just had our kitchen done and it was so easy after the mountain of quotes we had before choosing who to go with. In the end we used T3scos (yep, had no idea they did kitchens until a friend in the village mentioned it).

They ripped out, stripped tiles, org'd the skip, fitted, did all electrical work/plumbing & re-plastered/tiled just leaving us to paint & enjoy...& we got clubcard points on our spend! (We're going to boost them to use in other locations & are planning eating out treats/l3goland/hotel breaks etc...all things we just wouldn't be planning while I'm on maternity leave!) I'd say it's def. worth a quote from them.

Hello dingdongsaving, welcome to the thread. You make it sound really idyllic, out there in the woods with your lovely children, drinking tea in the sunshine! I wish I had known about T£sco kitchens, I would have given it a go myself, as it happens we are still struggling with the unfinished stuff that the builders failed to do, but won't bore you with it. I hope you will find this thread useful and entertaining and that you will contribute to it.

Yesterday I ordered turkey and gammon for christmas from a good local butcher and was given a bone for my dog - she is still enjoying it. The meat will be good and will be plenty for leftovers for the christmas period.

Cleared some more of the perimeter of the new garden and then had a bonfire. Also dug some more of my vegetable plots.
