That's what I use. And I use longlife milk as well - you can then do a cold start (plus 'fresh' pasteurised milk has to be heated to kill bacteria before you make yogurt, or you get more than just the friendly ones you were planning on...).

To thicken, you can always add some powdered milk.

You'll need to refresh the starter from a commercial yogurt or bacteria starter every 6-8 batches as it gets acidic and thinner and lumpier...
  • Caterina, thank you for the information about Approved Foods. I had a look last night but they don't have any at the moment so I will pop into a health food shop at the weekend and see what they have.

I have a quiet house this morning as DD is at school this morning but home this afternoon. I have managed to have 4 NSD's in a row and hoping today will make 5 :j I will have to pop out and get a couple of bits for the weekend before I pick up eldest DD from the train station but it should only come to about £15 as I have been stocking up on lots of things, so really only fruit and veg.

DH was made redundant in 2011 from a job within the NHS that he had for over 12 years and despite applying for hundreds (and I do mean hundreds) of jobs has never been able to find permanent work and has spent the last 4 years temping. Due to regulation changes in his previous field of work, purchasing, all employers were asking for a CIPs qualification which DH never had and would cost over £3000 to take, he decided to get out of office work and fancied driving. He has been temping for the same company now (via an agency) since February of this year and they told him yesterday that they are putting him on 'temp to perm'! 12 weeks time and my DH will hopefully get a permanent job:D He was like a different man when he came home last night, it was like the weight of the world had been lifted, regular hours, regular income, holiday pay, all the things you take for granted when you have a job but you miss hugely when you don't. Salary is no where near his previous job but he absolutely loves what he does now and would never consider going back to an office, so proud of my DH, he has never moaned once about the situation and supporting us all (the girls are from a previous marriages), this man is definitely a keeper! :rotfl:

I had an Easi-Yo a couple of years ago but gave it away as I couldn't afford the packet mixes....I didn't realise I could have made my own in it!

MoS -I know lots of purchasing/procurement people who don't have CIPS, so I assume it must be something to do with the type of purchasing he was doing.

Ironically, my colleagues and I provide support and advice to purchasing and procurement and NONE of us have CIPS. And as a qualification it doesn't travel internationally, so multi-nationals (particularly overseas head-quartered) often aren't fussed.

So if at some point your DH does want to go back into this field, there are options. Then again, it sounds like he's happy with what he's doing now, so maybe best not to go back!

Thank you Greenbee, it was never a requirement for the NHS but we live in Buckinghamshire and all the jobs ask for CIPs. DH was reluctant to do it as he said the same about it not being transferable. He purchased medical equipment when working for the NHS. He does seem very happy doing what he is doing but I will broach the subject just in case and if you don't mind, contact you if it is something he wants to do again?

Good to see you serena! I've moved house and have a new garden if you fancy a challenge ;)

tatabubbly - good to see the popularity of CIPS is spreading. Lots of the client orgs I work with have never heard of it, but it would be nice to have some international consistency!

    Hello,

    Welcome to the thread Serena!

A very quick update as am very sleepy at the end of a busy day.

Did tai chi in the park, spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon sorting out warranties for new kitchen gadgetry (boiler and peripherals), did a laundry, worked with the boys then cooked dinner for family and a friend. Very tasty veg curry that everybody loved luckily.

Friend brought a bottle of wine and we had a fun evening, but now I can barely keep my eyes open.

Grocery NSD although I paid a credit card bill so not a total NSD.

    Good night all!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
