Thanks Tillytrotter, that's interesting. It'll give strength to my argument with Lidl. IF they have them in some of the stores they should have them in all of the stores!!!!Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0

Evening all! Sorry to hear about your disappointment with Lidl, Icey77. I'm generally a fan of them. Though when I first went to do my weekly shop, I didn't realise you had to have a pound coin for the trolley. I didn't have any change so had to squeeze my weekly shop into a basket!
Yesterday was an NSD for me. The boyfriend came over and cooked me a chicken curry, so I made some chapatis to go with it. Much tastier than shop-bought and much more OS too.
Today I took a day off work, so has involved a bit of spending. I have been long overdue a haircut so finally got round to having one. It cost me £15 which isn't too bad. I used to pay £40+ a cut in my less frugal days () but credit to myself, realised this wasn't financially viable. I struggled for ages to find a hairdresser I liked. The really cheap (sub-£10) ones I tried were just rubbish. Then I found the £15 one which does it very well and isn't a budget breaker! I did consider cutting my own hair but the boyfriend vetoed the suggestion :rotfl:
Some lemon chicken in the slow cooker for dinner. Debating whether I can be bothered to walk to Asd@ to get some potatoes to go with it. I've got some loose change so may be a good way to get rid of that. Leftover curry will be my lunch at work tomorrow. Yum!
It's just occurred to me! I finally got round to paying in my £12 cheque!!! After it sitting there for weeks. I remember I had it and spotted an HSBC on the way to get my hair cut. That'll be moved into savings once it's clearedFed up of paying off someone else's mortgage so saving for a deposit for my own home
As of 20/07/2015: £35000 / £35000 :T :T :j

Oh lemon chicken sounds nice, I have a slow cooker but I'm a little wary of it
silly I know!!
Would you mind sharing the details and perhaps some specific instructions? Thanks!!Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -

Don't be afraid of your slow cooker! I got mine for Christmas and it's been in almost constant use since! Find it brill for simple but good and healthy meals.
The lemon chicken was great. You have to brown four chicken breasts in a pan and then transfer to the slow cooker pot. Fry a chopped onion for 4-5 minutes, then add in two sliced cloves of garlic and two tablespoons of flour. Cook for 30 seconds then add an unpeeled lemon, cut into eighths, and 450ml chicken or vegetable stock. Bring to the boil in the pan then transfer to the slow cooker and cook on high for 3 and a half-4 hours. In the last 15 minutes, chuck a handful of mangetout into the slow cooker to soften.
That serves 4. I served mine with spicy potato and swede mash and have plenty of leftovers. I think next time, I'll peel and zest the lemon. That'll make it break down quicker but means you don't have to pick out the skin. Very nice meal thoughFed up of paying off someone else's mortgage so saving for a deposit for my own home

Good morning everyone
I'm allowing myself some computer time this morning to catch up on my threads.
Icey77 There is nothing better than the little ones having a good nights sleep, I think it puts everyone in a good mood for the day - well it does in our house
Caterina Well done on your NSD and FF :T I love days spent with girlfriends eating cake, they're the best kind of tonic!
Well busy busy here as usual,, it was Australia Day yesterday and we went to a friends and spent the afternoon swimming and had a bbq for lunch plus a few glasses of wine for me
DS3 has cut his first 2 teeth over the last couple of days so we'll have to see how he goes with the breastfeeding - no biting mummy! Lol
Friday I decided to paint the toy room, so my lovely mum came over to watch the little boys so I could make a start. Pretty happy that I found some paint in the shed which was enough for the first coat but still had to buy some to get it finished which wasn't ideal but its all done now and looks great.
Sunday hubby and I finally made a start on our veggie patch, maked out the beds and hubby start digging out the grass:):)
Found this blog http://www.houseofhumble.com/ so hoping to steal away some time to have a read.
Off to make breakfast feel like some welsh cakes, going to attempt to make them gluten free for hubby and I, cross your fingers for me
Have a great day xLove people use things. The opposite never works.0 -
Afternoon All,
Caterina, I hope sleep has left you feeling refreshed.
Some days I miss having 'littlies', when I look back at the photos of my girls when they were young, I am fit to burst with love for them. I love them just as much now but I do miss the days of innocence.
DD has had her Doctors note effectively ignored by the letting agency and this concerns me hugely, Vet med students and vets have the highest incidence of Suicide and whilst I know my DD isn't going to do anything like that, it does worry me that concerns raised by a GP are effectively ignored. I have been on to the company that 'owns' the site she is based at and they too are surprised by the response from the student accommodation people. I have left them to look into for me as if I could, I would pay the rest of the rent and she would just move home, as it stands at the moment, we have told DD to pay the rent and we will try and come up with the additional £65 a week we need to pay for her travel costs. Poor girl, it always happens when she is at Uni and can't get a cuddle from her Mum, to hear her sobbing down the phone to me is heartbreaking
So, going to try and distract myself with some cross stitching. I am on the final bit of back stitching so may well have it completed by tonight. Dinner is going to be a quick and easy spaghetti bolognaise and it looks like it is going to be a NSD for me as was yesterday :T
Wishing you all a lovely OS day0 -
Good afternoon,
At last a moment to read posts and to write on the laptop instead of that blasted little Ipad that drives me nuts!
MOS I am so sorry that your DD is still having troubles with her accommodation, how awful that they would ignore the GP’s note and good for you for chasing it up.
Icey make sure you ask for some sort of compensation in your L!dl complaint letter, talk about the suffering of your little girl, also say that you had to waste time and go somewhere else, it might bring you a few quid in vouchers, who knows. Good luck with getting results, I love a good complaint letter (if needed). People don’t complain enough and that is why we get such a bad customer service, if everybody takes things lying down nothing changes and the powers that be will still take our money and give us very little back for it. This does not mean that I advocate a lawsuit culture like in the States, but there must be a middle way!
Ginny is the craft stuff for Gin and Pickle? I love your stuff, hope to see photos of it soon!
Tillytrotter1 welcome, no worries about hijacking, good to see you, stay with us for as long as you like, it is good to have all contributions!
CyclingLondonSaver, I feel your pain about finding a good and reasonably priced haircutter in London, some of the salons are good if you have the time to go as a model, try the Aveda Institute in Holborn, it is rather good if they have any spaces, or just do a search for free model haircuts on Gumtree, sometimes the students put adverts there for models, I have had some very good haircuts and also colour.
Amandaatnumber7 Thank you for your kind words about my NSDs and FF, unfortunately I failed the full week as on Sunday I needed to put fuel in the car, then DS came back from Spain unwell and needed some food (not what we had in the house) so pop went the 7 day FF. But at least I have done 6 days. It was like I said, I can do it for myself but cannot rely on doing it when I have to meet other people’s needs.
I am so tired these days, always running around, doing things, sorting things, I have had to turn down a job yesterday, an advert I responded to because I thought it would just be a few hours with a baby, turns out the woman is still expecting and is not sure about how many hours and when she needs help, also wanted a cleaner at the same time (the same person), it just felt so wrong. Today I texted her and turned down the job, it felt like one too many things. Pity because she seemed nice enough and very near here, but I just could not take an unknown quantity, I need very regular arrangements these days so I know exactly where I am.
OK, time to go to work, hope you are all having a good OS day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
A very OS dinner for us tonight - devilled pheasant breasts, rice with crispy onions, cumin seeds & cardamon.
The pheasant were donated to DH by a work colleague and everything else is coming from stores:D
Just hope I actually like it, LOL! I've only ever had pheasant in a casserole and didn't like it very much! Still at least I can look forward to the spicy rice:rotfl:
Edit: it was absolutely delicious but we only needed one breast each so will have the other one tomorrow night.
