repointing V rendering

Options
Evening all

The outside of our house (1930's 3 Bed Semi) is in real need of repair. The thing is, we're on a debt management plan so I have no idea how we're going to be able to afford any of it.

Anyway, we're looking for the cheapest way to make it look decent but more importantly make it weatherproof and secure.

Is rendering or repointing going to be the cheapest way?

Also, does anyone have any tricks on how to approach the bank to let us borrow money on the mortgage to cover it? The house is worth about £130k and we owe about £80k

Any comments appreciated.

  • repoint t every time, DIY as high as you can. Sand £3a bag cement, £4.80 a bag, PVA 2,50 a ltr.

    No need for a loan,,

Whatever you do don't render decent brickwork, it's only ever a good ideas if the bricks are flaked, and can actually devalue your home compared to the standard ones in your road.

As above it's a very simple if soul destroying job for anyone with some DIY experience, angle grinder, mortar rake disc, and mortar extruder gun.
You can simplify it even less by using a chisel and a trowel for filling but..............................
Of course it may not be for you, but it sounds as if getting it done by a builder may not help your situation.;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

100% repoint, render would just cover up the issue, if needs repointing do it....then if you dont like the look of bricks have it rendered

    all the best.

    Cheer chaps.

I'll give it a go. If it's something I can try myself then I'll give it a try. The brickwork is decent to be honest, it's just the pointing.
