My son is visiting from Dubai and we wanted to put him on his dads car insurance ad a named driver for a month but it was going to cost him £250 to do it as his dad has saga insurance. When looking at comparison sites it was £350. He has a uk licence and insurance in Dubai. Any suggestions on a cheaper price would be grateful thx.

Take out a temporary policy? Although not being a UK resident may exclude quite a few.

£250 for a month is a rip off, unless he has convictions, is under 25 etc. Cripes that's £3k a year!!
If his visit was known at renewal - I always prefer to negotiate the price into the renewal premium.

You can take out a standard annual insurance policy and, in certain instances, cancel it within the 14 day cooling off period thereby getting a full refund and only paying a small admin fee, say £25. Very important to check the provider's T&Cs first as some insurers may only offer a pro rata refund, and I'm sure admin fees will vary from insurer to insurer. If you have to claim or someone claims against you then the 14 day cooling off period no longer applies. But £25 per 1-13 days cover is pretty good. Also I'd suggest offering some bull***t reason when you ring to cancel otherwise they may get wise to this loophole!0
