Puzzlingly late bill for 1st quarter after switching to NPower

We recently switched to NPower from edf in order to get a longer fixed price and save some money.!

However in the first quarter we've been given a massive bill of about £400 for Jan-April. This one three month billing period has cost us more money than we spent on all out gas and electric with edf over a period of a year.!

We've not changed any major appliances or habits. Were in the same one bed house with just me and my girlfriend. So I'm puzzled.!

I've contacted NPower whom are denying this is any sort of error on their part as they say we've provided actual meter readings. Which we have though they had issues recording them at the point of account opening. I think I had to give them readings about 6 times before they said they'd actually recorded them.!

I'm a bit stumped as to what to do next. Has anyone got any advice on how to contest what seems to be an over charging on npowers side?!

What are the opening reads and end reads on the bill? Do they make sense?

Do you have a metric meter - are they charging you for an imperial meter (does each whole meter unit correspond to about 11 or about 33 kWh on the bill?)

Thanks for you help and @Nada666.

I think we're finally getting to the bottom of the problem after numerous calls and a lack of clear communication from NPower.

It would appear that the original opening readings were estimates (despite submitting accurate readings 3 times online and via phone). But Npowers system kept failing to take them.

So I'm waiting for 30 days for a new bill to be issued and to see how much money I'm owed or owe NPower. Personally think having to wait 30 days for a new bill which is likely to be drastically different is bit unreasonable on NPowers part as we're continuing to have to fork out for what you're accusing us of large bill debt.

Definitely switching from NPower back to EDF once this is all sorted.
