Getting a Mortgage - 1 good credit rating - 1 bad

Options
My partner and I own our house but I'm not on the mortgage as she owned the house before I moved in, she has lived there for 12 years and I for 6yrs, the house was brought for 91k and is now worth around 116k-120k. My partner has a great job which pays 50k a year and I 20k per year so moving house should be easy right? WRONG in fact according to my credit report I have a poor credit rating even though I've had loans and credit cards in the past and have never missed a payment, my partners is perfect. We want to move and can afford the repayments being shown on most mortgage providers but there just doesn't seem to be anyone out there that will provide one and the more I apply the more damage i'll be doing to my report.

Has anyone got any advice?

The credit rating doesn't mean anything lenders don't see it. Check all 3 credit reports are accurate (£2 Experian and Equifax and Noddle for Callcredit). Do you have defaults and CCJ's? What is your percentage debt to your salary? You may need to reduce your Ostend debt? Are you on the electoral roll on your reports? Have you used payday lenders?

Also are you financially ossociated to anyone else? That impacts you.

Check all 3 of your credit reports, and look for any red marks or anything that could be considered risky. Carrying high credit card balances, carrying balances on multiple cards, having too much available credit, late payments, missed payments etc.

Have you applied for a lot of new finance recently?

Ignore the 'score', it's a bogus number. It's the data in your report that matters.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
