in Credit cards
Hello.
Myself and my husband have just applied for credit cards (myself with Asda my husband with our bank HSBC) and we were both declined. HSBC told my husband that it was something Experian were holding. So we have signed up to Experian and checked thinking there would be a problem yet both our scores show 999 and excellent! Does anyone know why this could have happened? And when we can try again for a credit card as we need one to go to America in a few months time. And if possible the best credit cards to go for. We have no debts and will literally use it for odd things like hire car in America and pay it off in full each month.
Thanks very much for any help as we are both perplexed!

Yet more evidence that the credit reference agency random number game is meaningless nonsense.
Send a copy of your credit files to HSBC and appeal the decision.
How long have you been registered to vote at your address?
Do you own the property?
How long have you been in your jobs?0 -
It might be something to do with no or very less history of managing loan, credit cards
It might be income related ...
A lot of possibility ....
Do you and/or your husband have a credit card, loan, mobile phone contract that has been settled previously?loveleggins wrote: »Hello.

Hello. Yes my husband has had two loans which he has paid off in full. And mobile phone contract. I have had a mobile phone contract that I have paid off in full as well as something I had bought on finance and has been paid off in full. No defaults. The only thing I had on my Experian was that my Next account has only been open for 3 months, and new credit may go against me. It has been paid off in full each time though. We are on the electoral roll and moved into our property in Oct 3013. It is privately rented. Would appealing to HSBC work? We could try as even the HSBC representative was supposed when my husband was declined as he said it looked fine their end but they couldn't see what Experian was holiding.0

Also I had a Barclaycard Platinum credit cars two years ago but I never used it so after 6 months they wrote to say they had cancelled it.0

Also my husband works and earns a decent wage but I am a housewife. He's been in his job since November. Before that he was in his pervious job for 8 years. I'm not sure if that is important or not when it comes to getting credit.0

You also need to check your credit file on Equifax and Call Credit (noddle)
Given that you have checked your credit files on thee major CRAs, and nothing against you, you have been in electoral role in your current address for more than two years then if I were you I will definitely go for appeal.
I have done that in two occasions in the past and my appeal was supported.
My personal experience tell me that the person who make that decision play a significant role for non-straight forward application. I know quite a few of people in this forum disagree with this but I am speaking from personal experience that other people have not experienced.
Nowadays all of that is done by computer, but human factor still play a crucial role in the decision making of non- straight forward application. Some of the people working in banking industry are less experience then others, some are lazy or rather reluctant to spend more time to look into further detail. All of that play role in the decision making.0 -
Thanks for the response. We have only lived in our house for a year in October, so will this most likely be why we cannot get the credit card? And if so are we beat waiting another year until applying again?0
