When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

Hi everyone,
Managed to find a few minutes to get my weekly post up. Enjoyed reading everyone's posts this week. Thank-you. This is yesterday's list, today's will follow.
So, after a £300+ car repair bill  we:
*Walked two miles from garage to town and back. Spent £5 Wilkinson's surveys voucher on bird seed, lavender seeds, veg seeds, anti-histamines and a deodorant. Free shopping! £2 more vouchers in the post when we came home. If anyone wants to look at doing i-Say surveys you can do so here. They used to be called Ipsos (Link).
*Spent two hours in the park watching monster trucks getting ready for their show. Didn't buy tickets at £12 each as we've both seen them before.
*Harvested most of our daikon radishes and pickled them. Did a test run a week ago and they tasted great. Freezing them doesn't seem to work well. They go "woody" and taste like old sticks after two months. One Kilner Jar wasn't sealed properly but luckily we noticed when I went back to the cupboard to take a photo. Phew! Seeds were 40p last year and have done us for two years worth.
*OH planted out carrot, broad beans, red peppers and spinach from a 90p seed pack
*Visit at short notice from OH's cousin. Sat in the garden enjoying the sun. No spend socialising! Even if OH did take a photo of said cousin with my knickers on the line in the background and uploaded it to Facebook! As the sun was so bright OH couldn't see said underwear on phone photograph! :rotfl:
*Repaired draw-string in trousers instead of buying new ones.
*Used up negative energy weeding the garden and cleaning the house.
*Dinner included home-grown potatoes, mint, radish, onion, onion tops and salad leaves.
*Last night drank a little alcohol we brought back from last week's mini-holiday un-opened.
And today:
*Going for a cheap swim at local pool rather than at swanky non-local one.
*Free physiotherapy on dodgy shoulder from OH.
*Spend £2 WHSmith's voucher from surveys at shop near pool this morning.
*Do Royal Mail survey.
*Turn radio-controlled, self-resetting, electric alarm clock off during the day.
*Special Saturday lunch will be home cooked using a small treat from our local butcher who doesn't mind us going in and asking for "two sausages" or "one slice of that".
*Get a free Superdrug Beautycard loyalty card as we do shop in there quite often.
Freebies
*Complete a survey to get £2 worth of Superdrug points. (Link)
*Send a parcel for free up to the value of £10. (Link)
Offers
*This weekend's Lidl offers. (Link)

Good Morning Weekend Campers!
Glorious sunshine once the mist had cleared.
Today's money saving activity:
*Vouchers put in handbag so they don't get forgotten on tomorrow's city centre shopping trip. Need quite a pricey item, intend to pay with vouchers earned from surveys. Also remembered to pack my free coffee & cake voucher for John Lewis :-)
*Saved energy by sharing bath water & letting hair get almost dry naturally before bashing it into shape with dryer & straighteners.
*NSD today as mr f has had to work & I don't have the car. Too hot even to walk to the village coffee shop.....which has saved pence & calories as whenever I go there, a toasted teacake instantly jumps down my face.
*Delved into my recycled jar cupboard to find some nice jars for the marmalade I'm in the middle of making. Last weekend, lemons were 6 for a £ on our local market, so I bought 12, & they have done a kilner jar of Indian lemon pickle, were an ingredient in the paste for the curried whole chicken I cooked this week, plus I'll probably get between 4 & 6 jars of marmalade, some of which will be used for gifts with pretty lids/labels, etc. One lonely lemon left for slicing up & putting in iced water later (no wine & beer coming out tonight as we're back on the Rosemary Conley!)
*Checked veggie garden for problems & pests & watered thoroughly.
*Cut cucumber no. 3.
*Postie brought another £10 John Lewis voucher from Toluna surveys. I've got £70's worth of those stashed up now & another 2 to come, plus am over a 1/3 of the way to the next one.
*All free leisure for me today: Writing a letter, finishing my library book & maybe starting a new one, finishing the back of the jumper I'm knitting for the present box, might start watching 'Hinterland' tonight.
OK, must get the sugar into the cauldron & start jammin' now.
Love to all,
Keep those pennies in your purse! (I'm saying that.....I've got to get round the city centre tomorrow without being lured into any shoe shops with sales........I used to be a naughty girl with shoes. Thinking of wearing my DMs & knotting the laces really tightly so that it's a deterrent for taking them off to try on shoes I don't need!)
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Morning all.
Having a peaceful day as all menfolk are out - sons are working and OH visiting a friend. Just me and the pooches - bliss.
This morning I read my library book and had tea and toast in bed. Put 1 of 2 loads of washing in and will hang out - dull but forecast looks OK.
Sorted out kitchen mess. Forgot to mention this week that dishwasher wouldn't shut as door catch broke. We ordered the part online (£5.99), hubbie fitted it and it's now back in action. Have fixed various appliances by researching online for the probable fault, buying the part and doing the fixing ourselves. Saves a lot. The best one was the washing machine - son dropped his end when they were carrying it outside for hubbie to investigate the problem. They noticed that a 5p piece had come out so put it back in place and it's been working ever since (3+ years). Though it does make quite a lot of noise these days.
Have made some bread dough for rolls (waiting for it to proove) and have taken burgers out of freezer for later.
Really need to list some stuff to sell but may be tempted out into the garden instead if the weather picks up. Rain forcast again for tomorrow so need to make the most of it if it stays dry today.
Also need to do a long dog walk at some point, that will do me good. Spend too much time on bum in front of computers!
Have a good Saturday x0 -
Today I have/will:
1. Changed bed linen
2. Washed bed linen and it's out on line to dry.
3. Washed door mat
4. Cleaned/disinfected cat bowls/mats
5. Ordered a voucher for free cat food from: www.royalcanin.co.uk/redcat
6. Cleaned bedroom
7. Meals from stores
8. Drink plenty of water as it's quite hot here in South Wales
9. Update programs on laptop and scan with free anti virus
10. Completed superdrug survey (Thanks for the link allydowd:T)Tesco: £1361.19, Vanquis: £2644.73, Very: £563.08, Next: £1636.95, M&S: £1049.92. As of 5th February 2024. Slava Ukraini0 -
Morning all!
Thanks for the thread Ally, and for the freebie links!
Today I have/will:
Had quick shower, shower turned off whilst shaving legs!
Breakfast from stores
Did superdrug survey for 200points!
Load of washing done on quick mode (none too dirty so half recommended washing powder)
Now hanging on the line, due to rain at 2 so have to do following quickly:
Walk into town to return two things (maybe 3...) and pay in a cheque
Pop down to the range to get some wool for a christmas present
Nip into somewhere to buy salady stuff for lunches in the week
Avoid going anywhere else in town!
Check banks
Check CC
Look at post survey stuff
Evening of crocheting, watching a film and having a glass of strawberry wine from my bday.
Have a great day all, I'm off to get dressed!

Not sure Im doing much today to save/not spend as such! Hubby has changed the bedding and its in the wash ready to go on the line (dull but no rain forecast!). I have done a couple of surveys on onepoll.com, they often have surveys up even if only for 10p!
Off visiting family and friends this afternoon, dropping my dad's present off from our hols last week. Making my friend a gift out of dog toys I bought and never managed to sell on (long story, little business idea but not enough time to make it take off) as she looked after out ferrets while we were away! So her gifts aren't costing anything extra!
Off for lunch with others friends tomorrow, only saving that will happen is I won't buy wine with the meal as it makes me sad how much it costs!
Happy weekends!
