We have just had the biggest public sector industrial action in decades with a million people taking the day off.
Nobody seems to have noticed any difference.
Makes you wonder how many of these jobs are actually needed.

I didn't notice. About 25% of the staff from OH's work were on strike. She said everything worked as normal...0

When was it?Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
Agree with the sentiment of this thread, but I noticed 'cos my bins didn't get emptied . .
but it's ok, according to the council web site, they're coming on Sunday
Double time I suppose . . .0 -
Strangest thing I saw was picketing outside Wakefield Cathedral. What was that for? Better rights in heaven? Maybe they wanted the 70 virgins deal like other religions :rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

When I run things, I'll ban teachers from striking. It hurts people (schoolkids) who can't do anything about it anyway. TBH, I find it pretty disgusting that they're doing this. In many countries which are idealised by left wing nut jobs, it is illegal for many 'essential workers' (e.g. firemen and train drivers) to strike. Germany, for example, has long banned train drivers from striking.
I went to state school during the strikes of the 1980s and it disrupted educations terribly.0 -

I work in the public sector, didn't even know of a strike until a couple of days before when I read it on the trust bulletin.
I wouldn't have bothered striking anyway.
That being said, I support people's right to protest against what they see as unfair conditions.:www: Progress Report :www:

I agree with a caveat that striking isn't always the best or correct way to do this.
People like the military, police, firemen, teachers, nurses & doctors, ambulance-ists and bus & train drivers shouldn't be able to strike IMHO. The military can't at present and that should be extended I think. Tube drivers earn a very high wage for a low skill job because they have what amounts to a monopoly. I can't use a different train service or bus route to get to work as I need to get from where I am to where I want to be.0 -
As far as I'm aware nurses have a code where they 'can't' strike, although that doesn't apply to care assistants or support staff.
Additionally, also as far as I'm aware, fire-fighters still respond to emergencies while on strike.:www: Progress Report :www:

Also interesting is the decision to all strike on the same day - makes it look like an attempt to send a political statement rather than individual groups of employees expressing their own specific greviences.I think....0
